Harold Houser Obituary

Harold Lee Houser Jan. 21, 1924 Feb. 3, 2006 Lee was born in Columbus, Ohio to William E. and Velva Houser. After graduating from East High School he served four years in the U.S. Coast Guard during WWII. On LST 169 he was in four invasions in the Pacific Theater. He married Nancy Stewart on V.J. Day, August 15, 1945. After graduating from Ohio State University, his 30-year YMCA career began in Canton, Ohio followed by Sacramento, San Jose, CA, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Port Arthur, TX and Bakersfield. He then worked 10 years for the State of California in Employment Development. He was a member of two YMCA Retirees groups and the Navy League. Predeceased by his parents and brother, Bill; he leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Nancy; children, Dave (Robin), Carolyn Carvajal (Carlos), Mike (Barbara); grandchildren, Calli, Heather, Celina, Lauren, Craig, Kate and Laura. A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 11th, 11:00 a.m., at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Donations may be made to YMCA of Kern County or YMCA World Service. Legacy.com

Lee has always been a great friend to me and my family. His selfless dedication to the YMCA has been an inspiration. I cannot remember a day when he wasn't in my life. We will miss him.
