Harold Scheuring Obituary

Long-time Reading resident, Harold “Bud” William Scheuring, age 79, passed away at his home surrounded by his family on Tuesday, February 22, 2022. Born in Reading on November 19, 1942, he was the son of the late James W. Scheuring, Jr. and the late Fern (Haas) Scheuring. His is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Janice (Lorah) Scheuring, who stole his heart at the St. Margaret’s dances and never let it go. He is also survived by his children, Lori Gliva, wife of Stephen of Royersford; Todd Scheuring of Reading; and Steve Scheuring, husband of Stacey (Eddinger) of Douglassville; and five grandchildren, Kelsey and Joshua Gliva, and Sarah, Emily, and Cole Scheuring. He was predeceased by brother, James and sister, Jane Schittler and survived by sisters, Patricia Byerly, wife of Richard, Joan Jackson and brother, William – all of Reading. Bud was raised in Reading and graduated from Reading High School in 1962. Bud took immense pride in his work spending his career as a welder at Dana Corporation, was a proud member of the United Steelworkers Union, and was a Board Member of the Dana Federal Credit Union. He loved dancing, especially with Janice; he loved playing music – Johnny Maestro, Teddy Pendergrass, The Spinners – loud enough for the neighborhood to hear; he loved making friends with complete strangers; he loved food – steak with mushrooms, lobster – every story about a holiday started with a story about the meal; he loved telling stories about Native American history, about growing up, about meeting Janice, about his kids and grandkids; he loved to fly fish and was an expert in the art of fly tying; he loved boxing, especially Joe Frazier; he loved his Corvettes. Bud loved hard! When he loved, you knew it because he was all in. If you were loved by him – family or stranger – you might hear at the end of your encounter, “May the good Lord take a liking to you. Until we meet again, happy trails.” He was proud to be “little Buddy”, the candy-Easter-egg-selling boy and the subject of Dick Peters’ “Old Pete” Reading Eagle article which included, “Are you Italian Buddy?” “No sir, I’m part German and part Irish. It don’t make any difference what you are. One person’s as good as another.” The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses of McGlinn Cancer Center and Tower Health at Home. Services and interment will be private. Memorial donations may be made to: American Cancer Society at cancer.org/donate, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital at stjude.org/donate and/or Tower Health at Home at 1170 Berkshire Boulevard; Wyomissing, PA 19610 www.aumansinc.com
