Read MoreSo sorry to learn Mr. Walters has left us. He was such an energetic and polished man in his late 80s when he helped me with directions as I was passing through the area. I've often wondered who could keep up with him and who was following his naturally kind, superior manners. Made a body want to settle down just to chat with him each week.

I'll never forget the well-mannered example set by Mr. Walters, to see those already in a room or in line; and quietly wait my turn rather than butt in and think the whole world revolves around me.
We lost a gem of a gentleman and role model.

I grew up in Independence and attend several funerals that Dan conducted when I was younger and did not appreciate him or the outstanding job he did until I moved away and attended other funerals. He was truly an Icon in the Funeral Director's world and in the community. Grayson County has been blessed to have a man of his caliber serving the area. Our prayers to the family.
