Harry GORDON Obituary

Harry Bernard Gordon, Jr. passed away at the young age of 62 on on the 13th of May 2012 in his home in Los Angeles. Harry, the son of Aileen Becker Gordon and the late Harry B. Gordon, Sr, was born on the 10th of September 1949 in Houston, Texas, at St. Joseph Hospital, and was a graduate of The University of Texas. Although he lived in Los Angeles and at times in Laguna Beach, California, Harry never really left Texas. He was a proud Houstonian with strong Texas roots.
Harry is survived by his mother, Aileen; sister, Frann Gordon Lichtenstein; brother, Douglas and his wife, Lisa; uncle, G.M. "Bubba" Becker; as well as his nieces and nephews, Jill and Brad Deutser; Rachel and Gregg Lichtenstein; Alissa and Henry Heinerscheid; and Adam Gordon.
Harry had many passions in his life, but none more special or important to him than his great nieces and nephews, Ashley and Andrew Deutser and Sydney and Hayden Lichtenstein. Also, throughout Harry's rich life he maintained incredibly special friendships with lifelong friends Ford and Claudia Frost, Peter and Catherine Badger, Gordie and Cheryl White, Lowry Barfield, among countless other lives he touched.
Harry will always be remembered for his bigger than life personality. And although he was hardly known for being punctual, Harry always made a grand entrance - and rarely without gifts. Every appearance for Harry was a memorable one. No matter when he arrived, everyone knew he was there. It was his presence, his words, his laugh or his never-ending generosity. Harry was always the first to help or lend a hand to a friend in need. He was incredibly giving and kind.
So too did Harry have the most impeccable taste. Harry Gordon Jewelers and Fine Gifts on Post Oak Boulevard was his vision, creation and passion. It was there that many in Houston as well as customers from around the globe would come to visit and share in his incredible taste and beautiful jewelry. The experience and the jewelry in the store were simply known as - "Very Harry." He was known from coast to coast for his style, his kindness and his taste.
Whatever Harry did in life, he did it the Harry Gordon way. He knew what he wanted and throughout his life, he made it happen. His smile, his warmth, his humor, his never-ending stories and "his way" will always be with us. They are reminders of the wonderful son, brother, uncle, great uncle and friend Harry was and remains today. His memory will be a blessing to each and every person whom he touched throughout his life.
Harry was very giving and involved with many local charities in Houston and Los Angeles. He was a strong advocate for the local police departments in whichever city he resided. He was also involved in his church, as well as causes of homelessness and diabetes.
The funeral service is to be conducted at two o'clock this afternoon, Friday, the 18th of May, at Palmer Memorial Episcopal Church, 6221 Main Street in Houston, where the Rev. James W. Nutter, Rector, is to officiate.
Immediately following, the family is to gather for a private interment at Glenwood Cemetery in Houston.
Honored to serve as pallbearers during this afternoon's services are Peter Badger, Don Connelly, Daniel Cuellar, Ford Frost, Ronald Ladin, and Gordie White.
In lieu of customary remembrances, contributions in Harry's memory may be directed to the Way Station, c/o Palmer Memorial Episcopal Church, 6221 Main St., Houston, TX, 77030-1576; or to the charity of one's choice.

Harry came storming into my life unwelcomed 10 years ago and drove me nuts ever since. That is what family does they drive each other nuts. He was my family and I loved him, all of him, he never had to hide who he was with me. I had just talked to Harry before his surgery and was going to go help him after and when I didn't hear... I knew. Today I was brave enough to try and find him after calling his numbers... I found this page. I'm in tears. I will forever miss my friend. You were a gentleman and you were the best. I hope heaven embraces you as you deserve. All my love Michael.

I am so saddened to hear of the loss of Harry B. Gordon, Jr. I worked as an assistant to Harry back in the mid 2000's, and had known him as a friend and neighbor for many years. He taught me so much about being a gentleman, as Harry most certainly was. Many a mornings were spent in his office listening to wonderful jokes & inspiring stories told like only Harry could. To his friends and family, may it provide you with comfort that Harry's office & home was filled with pictures of all his Texas friends and family. He spoke so highly of all of you, and loved you so greatly. The last time I spoke on the phone with Harry in April, was a conversation filled with laughter, a great memory. My sincere sympathies to his family & friends.

I am so sorry for your loss. I went to junior high and high school with Harry, and, at our high school reunions, he was always one of the ones who stayed longest and danced hardest. Please know I'm thinking of him, and of the family and friends he left behind, much too early.

Jo met Harry in the mid 1980's and introduced him to our late aunt, Virgie Massey Gray. That introduction was the beginning of an enduring friendship that lasted for more than 20 years. His nickname for her was "The Virge" which was adopted by everyone that knew both of them. Over those many years, they were available for each other and enjoyed common interests including her fabulous collections and their interests in presidential and military history. As well, Harry became a close friend to members of our family. In the last few days, all of us have remembered stories of Harry with affection. We extend our sincere sympathy to the entire Gordon family.

I was his personal trainer and part time assistant in Los Angeles. I've never met someone so giving and pure in my life. Full of charisma and always taking care of everyone but himself. I am still stunned to find this happened as I am used to seeing Harry's happy smiling face almost on a daily basis. I'm honored to have trained him and been his assistant these last few years. Harry will always and forever hold a place in my heart! Miss you Harry!

After those conversations, I felt like I knew him! His family dearly loved Harry and I know you all will miss him very much. My prayers are with you, Aileen and Frann, and all of his family.
