Harry Horst Obituary

Harry G. Horst, Sr.

Harry died Monday, October 18, 2010 with his grandson, Aaron, by his side.
Harry was born in Tacoma, WA on October 24, 1929 at Saint Joseph Hospital to Fred and Anna Marie Horst. He had an older brother, Edward Horst. Harry attended Stadium High School in Tacoma.
Harry married the love of his life, Gretchen, in 1948. They had three children and were married for 38 years. He married his second wife, Marlene, in 1989. They were married for 16 years.
He was preceded in death by both wives, father, mother and brother.
Harry is survived by his daughter, Pamela (Tim) Horst-Reardon; sons, Bruce Horst and Harry (Cindy) Horst, Jr.; five grandchildren, Aaron (Katy) Reardon, Angela (Derek) Trindle and Brendon, Carlee and Daniel Horst; and five great- grandchildren, Madeline and Jack Reardon, Collin and Ben Trindle and Paxton Horst.
Harry's greatest love of his life was his family and he was so proud of his three children.
Harry had three major careers in his life. In his 20's, Harry and his family lived in Anacortes, WA where he loved being a Commercial Fisherman. His second career (which was his favorite) was his work in construction as a Superintendent and owning his own construction company. He was a strong union supporter and member of the Labors and Hod Carriers Union. His third career was in real estate and he owned his own real estate company in Everett. Harry retired in Birch Bay and managed a real estate company in Ferndale, WA.
Harry was an avid sports fan. He loved football, basketball, baseball and golf and he loved fishing in Alaska. He was a voracious reader of books and the daily newspaper.
Harry's family would like to thank Providence Medical Hospitals (Colby and Pacific Campuses) for the outstanding care they provided him. Dr. Chu, Dr. Meyers, Kari Howry ARNP, Seth from the fourth floor nursing station and the nurses from Colby and Pacific Campuses…you were all so wonderful! Pam, Bruce and Harry Jr. were with him during this difficult time along with his son-in-law, Tim, and two grandchildren, Aaron and Angela.
In lieu of flowers, Harry's family would like donations in his name to be made to Providence Hospice.
A memorial service to celebrate Harry's life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 26, 2010, at Purdy & Walters at Floral Hills Funeral Home, 409 Filbert Rd. in Lynnwood, WA. To share memories or offer condolences, please visit www.floralhillslynnwood.com
