Harry King Obituary

Harry King

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Harry L. King, beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle and special friend to many. He left this world peacefully on Friday, Oct.10, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17, 2025, at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home.

A graveside funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, 2025, at Chapel Park Cemetery, with Pastor Darrell Joiner officiating.

Harry was born on Sept. 19, 1931, in Summit Station, Ohio. He graduated from Pickerington High School, where he met the love of his life, Margie L. Anderson, whom he married on Aug. 11, 1951. The couple shared 51 years together until Margie's passing in 2002.

Harry joined the U.S. Navy in June 1949 and retired in June 1971. He was known for his dedication and excellence, earning the respect of colleagues and peers. Harry served as an air traffic control man, retiring as a Senior Chief Petty Officer. He continued working for the next 25 years as a furniture sales representative in his local community.

He was a gifted athlete who participated in many sports, including softball, basketball, football, golf, fishing and bowling. He continued to be an avid bowler until the age of 92. He was recognized as the Golden Isles USBC Senior Bowler of the year in 2010-2011 at the age of 79. Harry's true passion was being a dedicated coach and mentor to the youth bowling program, a role he maintained until he was 93. His greatest joy was watching the children transition from beginners to accomplished bowlers.

Harry is survived by his daughter, Kathy L. Thomas; son, Raymond L. King (Brenda); grandchildren, Brian A. Atwood, Shawn R. Atwood (Sara) and Mallery E. King; and great-grandchild, Grace M. Atwood. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Margie L. King; parents, Otto B. and Lillian F. King; brothers, Ralph Longstreth and Jim King; sisters, Delcena Windsor and Betty Barte; and his son-in-law, Robert A. Thomas.

The family extends a very special thank you to Dr. Moran and the Heartland Hospice Care Team for the excellent and loving care provided to Harry during his extended illness. We also want to acknowledge our appreciation to all the family and special friends who provided care, time and support during this difficult time.

Donations may be made to the Golden Isles USBC Scholarship Fund at the Strike Zone, in care of Claudia Shelton, 380 Millennium Blvd., Brunswick, GA 31525. (In memory of Harry L. Ray King was one of the finest men I ever knew. I was his customer at Rhodes Furniture in the mid 70s and anytime I needed something else - I always went to him. Kathy and Ray worked with me at the local hospital. They are reflective of his kind demeanor towards others. Rest in Christ's arms my friend.
