ORLAND - Hazel Kain, age 96, of Orland, Indiana, passed away peacefully on
Sunday, Sept. 21, 2025, at her home.
The daughter of Ora T. and Naomi A. Stayner, she was born on Jan. 31, 1929, in Angola, Indiana.
Hazel lived a long and meaningful life, marked by love, kindness, and dedication to her family. She loved traveling, gardening, and IU basketball.
She worked as a machine operator at Weatherhead in Angola, for several years before she and her family relocated to Orland. She worked in the cafeteria at Orland High School, then at Prairie Heights School Corporation, where she retired from after 11 years.
She married Cleon Kain on June 23, 1946, and together they shared
55 years of marriage.
She was a proud mother of five children, daughters, Connie Bystry (Jerry), of Orland, Karol Booth (Bill), of Angola, Corrine Putman, of Angola; son, Kevin (Kellie) and daughter-in-law, Janet, all of Orland. A beloved grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother to Laura, Mark, Krystal, Julie, Lisa, Kyle, Ben, Dylan, McKenzie, Craig, Corey, Holden, Max, Aeslin, Paige, Parker, Brittney, Zeb, Crimson, Houston, Madison, Kennedy, Blake, McKinley, Naomi, Hunter, Hayes, Grant, Georgia and Zealand.
Family was at the center of her life and she cherished every moment spent with loved ones. Hazel will be remembered for her gentle spirit, sense of humor, generosity, work ethic, and positive attitude on life. She touched the lives of all who knew her.
In addition to her husband, Cleon, she was preceded in death by her brother, Ora Dell, of Edon, Ohio; son, Rick; son-in-law, Pete Putman; and a great-grandson, Tyler Szapkiw.
She will be dearly missed, but her memory will live on in the hearts of all who loved her.
To honor her request, there will be no viewing or service.
