So grateful we were able to visit you both last year, Betty--what a remarkable woman! You took such good care of her and I know you will miss her greatly. Much love from the Dillahunty (Young) family.

There will definitely be many memories of Aunt Hazel by her Shaw family because she always remembered us. Last time she talked to me (only weeks ago) she asked "when are you coming?" Now, we will have that reunion in Heaven! Betty, you have been the best daughter. She couldn't have had one any better. love you all.

My memories go all the way back to the
time Betty and I were about a year and
a half or maybe 2 years old. We were
fighting over a stroller. Even have
pictures. Betty & I have remained
friends all these years. I have
wonderful memories of Aunt Hazel even
though she wasn't a blood relative. She
treated me like a niece. I remember
the many times we went to the Shaws in
the country. Oh, what wonderful times.
Aunt Hazel gave me a lot of good advice
when I was a teenager. We'd been apart
many years, but I continued to keep up
with her over the years through Betty
I loved her very much.

Some of my earliest memories are of Aunt Hazel coming to visit her Mississippi relatives, which she did regularly for as long as she was able. When she didn't come in person, she would send packages of Florida citrus or gifts for everyone in the family, particularly at Christmas. She was so excited when construction started on Walt Disney World, looking forward to visitors from “back home.” Aunt Hazel responded to each and every letter I wrote her for decades, starting with printed notes from a 6-year-old right up to my telling her all about my son, her great-nephew. There's definitely something missing from my life now, but she left so many memories behind that she'll never be forgotten.

Aunt Hazel was so lovely, caring, and sweet and it showed in her smile. She lived a long life and will be sadly missed. Our thoughts are with the family. Love, Lisa & Carlos Velez
