Helen Nordan Obituary

Helen Sloan Nordan
December 14, 1918 – August 18, 2013
Cary
A wonderful, caring Mother, Grandmother, Sister, neighbor and friend went to heaven on Sunday night, August 18, 2013. The daughter of George and Maggie Sloan, she is predeceased by husband, St. Clair and siblings Hugh, Mary, Paul, Stella and Buck.
She is survived by daughter, Jean Davis (Patrick Holloway), son, Nick Nordan (Cathy Swords), sister, Hallolee Kirkman (Robert), grandchildren, Vance Nordan (Kim), Monica Roberts, Laura Randich (Shawn), Daniel Nordan (Allison), Richard Davis (Saundra), Scott Davis (Rachel), Jeffrey Davis (Darcie), 12 great-grandchildren and a very special friend, John McDonald and his family.
Born in Apex, NC, her family moved later to the Millbrook community where she graduated from high school, continued her education in secretarial school and met St. Clair. Her career began with Southern Bell and her love as a PBX Operator began. As a charter member of the PBX Club of Raleigh, she established a circle of lifetime, true friendships.
She joined Ephesus Baptist Church in the mid 50's and loved her Sunday School class friends and enjoyed their visits in her house bound years. Their friendships were precious to her.
She taught us to be giving and put ourselves second in life and make others first. She always looked for the good in everyone and never expected anything in return for her caring deeds. What a legacy!
We thank the caring staff at Woodland Terrace and Doctors Making House Calls for making her last few years so wonderful.
Funeral Service will be held Friday, August 23, 2013 at 2PM in the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel, 7209 Glenwood Ave. Raleigh, NC 27612. Entombment will follow at Brier Creek Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Thursday, August 22, 2013 from 6-8PM at Mitchell Funeral Home.

Jean and Nick, I just heard about your mom, and I am truly sorry for your loss.
I enjoyed the times I spent with her, whether on the phone, at her house, or on trips for the PBX Club. Oh, the stories that some of us could tell about those wonderful times with her. My special recollection is when she stayed with me at the hospital when my husband was in surgery. She did not leave my side until she knew he was okay. All of us in the PBX Club shared so much love and help from each other when times were a little rough.
You are with our Heavenly
father, dear friend.

Aunt Helen, oh the memories I have of visiting during the summers! You always made me feel so welcomed and loved. I especially remember and was so grateful that you drove Grandma (and Jean) down to Savannah for my graduation. What was important to me was important to you and you have always held a special place in my heart because of that. What a loss for the Nordan family! I love you!

Ms. Helen was always such a sweet lady and a joy to be around. Whenever I attended a PBX activity with my Grandma Peggy, Ms. Helen always made me feel so welcome. Ms. Helen, you were always such a good friend to my Grandmother and for that I am grateful. Thoughts are with your family during this time of loss.
