On Friday, October 27, 2023, in the comfort of his home, Henry L. Fields entered that prepared place.  He was born on February 25, 1948 in Rawlings, Virginia to Lucy Fields and Talf Fields, Sr.


Henry graduated in 1968 from Russell High School in Lawrenceville, Virginia.


Henry joined the military directly after high school.  He served his country faithfully in the United States Army from December 1968 to May 1970. He was a Frontline Soldier and an Airbourne Man’s. After serving his country, he was discharged to Washington, DC where he resided with his sister, Shirley aka “Tiny” for some time before securing employment with the Department of Labor in 1972. Henry, moved up in the ranks from the mail room to Building Management Assistant where he retired in March 2011. He joined the Army Reserve in June of 1972 and retired in May of 1994. During his time in the Reserve, he served active duty in Desert Storm in 1991. Henry also worked a part-time job with GSA contracts as a Building Supervisor from 1989 to 2023.


Henry met Edna Johnson at the Department of Labor and they married in April 1977. During this union he acquired a loving devoted daughter Theresa who loves him unconditionally.


Henry sang in the choir during his youth, according to him, later in life he joined Jericho City of Praise where he accepted our Father and Saviour. He volunteered his services by feeding the homeless, handing out turkeys on the annual turkey give away, and a host of other acts of kindness done behind the scenes.


Henry leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted daughter, Theresa Bell-Zepeda; a granddaughter, Angelica Zepeda; and a great grandson, Luca Eubanks. Henry is also survived by his brothers, Roosevelt Fields and James Russell Fields; sisters, Dorothy Stanley and Shirley Manley; sisters-in-law, LaVerne Lowery, Julia Mae Truesdale, Mattie Bell, Peggy Bell, Catherine Fields and Arleather Fields; brothers-in-law, James Bell, Larry Bell and Cleveland Bell; a large host of loving nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends.


Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, November 4, 2023 at Hickory Run Baptist Church, 225 Rawlings Road, Rawlings, Virginia. Interment with full military honors will immediately follow at the Hickory Run Baptist Church Cemetery.  Viewing will be from 1 pm until 7 pm at Joseph M. Johnson & Son Funeral Home-McKenney Chapel, 11107 Doyle Boulevard, McKenney, Virginia 23872.
