I know this is years late, but I am absolutely gutted and so sorry to hear about the passing of Lt. Lederer. I had the privilege of flying with him for my pre-solo check ride at Air East when I resided in NY. I was absolutely petrified at first as I knew about his history and experience, but once in the plane with him the atmosphere changed and I felt so comfortable knowing I was flying with a legend. I just found his entry in my log book signing me off on my pre-solo endorsement, brought tears to my eyes. God Speed Lt. Lederer and may your memory be eternal, and you continue to rest in peace.

So sorry to hear that Henry has passed, I had the honor of taking my check ride with him at ISP when he was 87, his character and depth of knowledge were an inspiration.

I was a student of Lt. Lederer, may he rest in peace and continue to fly high. I am honored to have his signature in my logbook.

I was a flight instructor at Republic Airport in Farmingdale, NY from 1997 through 2004 and had the pleasure/honor of flying with Henry many times. Henry administered most of my FAA flight tests. Henry was a real gentleman, and an excellent pilot as well. I will always remember after each check ride, Henry would ask to take the controls and would do a couple of wing overs, just for fun. Knowing other WWII vets, I understand why they are called "the greatest generation"...
