Henry E. Redd passed away December 14, 2012 at his home in Longmont, CO. He was 89. Henry was born on December 6, 1923 in Martinsville, VA to Thomas Barksdale, Sr. and Iza Barksdale (Ryan) Redd. When he was 18 he joined the Army Air Corp the day after Pearl Harbor was bombed; he went on to serve in India and the Pacific theater during WWII. After his honorable discharge he went to college on the GI Bill at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill where he graduated with a bachelors of science in chemistry. He married Mary Elizabeth Cook on August 28, 1948 in Greensboro, NC. Henry began his career working for the Virginia Carolina Chemical Company from 1948-1956, followed by an international career for the Gulf Oil Company for 27 years until 1983. In retirement he worked for Chemtreat for 15 years until he unwillingly retired at the age of 76. Henry was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Kingwood, TX where he served on medical mission trips and helped to organize mission travel to Spanish speaking countries; some of which he was able to take his grandchildren with him. He also attended Calvary Church in Longmont, CO He belonged to the Kingwood Country Club, of which he was a charter member in 1974 and active in until October of 2012. Henry was an avid golfer and enjoyed entertaining his clients on the links. He was an early adopter of technology which he used to text, maintain his own webpage, keep track of his golfing groups handicaps online, and was the proud owner of an IPhone. He loved his family and spending time with them. He was his wife's caretaker and made sure that she had everything she needed. Henry was especially proud of his grandchildren and it was a highpoint in his life whenever he could attend one of their college graduations. He also spent time with his three daughters and their families by vacationing together. Henry was preceded in death by his parents; and five of his six siblings. He is survived by his wife Mary C. Redd of Longmont; his three daughters Elizabeth (Brent) Bromstrup of Windsor, CO, Mary Louise Redd (Hubert) Smith, and Carey (Tom) Hovestol; eleven grandchildren Amanda (Alex) Velasco, Ashley Bromstrup, Thaddeus Bromstrup, Bridget Bromstrup, Ian Henry (Bethany) Smith, Peter Smith, Nathan Hovestol, Christina (Iain) Bryant, Susanna (Marshall) Meringola, Priscilla (Brandon) Dodsworth and Seth Hovestol; five great-grandchildren Santiago, Oliver, Brielle, Evangeline, and Silas Henry; and one sister Louise Redd Downing of Buena Vista, VA. A funeral service will be held 10:30 AM Tuesday December 18, 2012 at Calvary Church in Longmont, CO. Interment will take place at 2:15 PM Tuesday December 18, 2012 at Fort Logan National Cemetery.
