What a great idea to remind those of us who had the privilege of knowing Henry Topel to stop and think about this Great American !
He was a loyal and true friend of my Dads who every time I saw him would say, I love your father then ask me a whole lot of questions about how my life was going!
It is especially fitting that its Memorial Day weekend as he served his country well. A true patriot. I know he is still missed by his family and friends!!!

I was sorry to learn that Mr. Topel had passed away. I had the pleasure of meeting him while working at Delaware State Parks. My boss, the Director of Delaware State Parks, at that time was Bill Hopkins who was the Secretary for GWCVB and he would bring me the tapes from the meetings for transcription. I always enjoyed listening to Mr. Topel's voice on the recorder and I'm glad I had the opportunity to meet him at one of the GWCVB meetings. He was a very nice gentleman and will be missed...

I also worked for Mr. Topel and his son, Ave at the Sheraton-Brandywine and then at the El Capitan for a total of 5 years. I will always remember Mr. Topel and his early morning phone calls to the front desk for his "status update" and a little story telling from him. I credit Mr. Topel for instilling in me, at the young age of 19, the importance of integrity, loyalty, and hard work. I speak of him fondly on many occasions.

Ave and Henry gave me my first job as a bellman at the El Capitan back in 1984. I fondly remember Henry telling me stories about the development of his real estate holdings. I worked on and off for Ave throughout my college years . I credit the Topel's with starting my 30 year carreer in real estate. I will miss Henry and my thoughts are with the Topel family.

Henry was a real gentleman and one who never forgot his roots. He was kind, respectful, and caring. I was honored to have known him over the years, and to see the respect that so many had for him, including my father the late Michael A. DiEleuterio. I will miss the many conversations and greetings that started with "hello my friend" in that deep projecting voice. A true Delaware icon has passed and WILL be missd by all who knew him. Rest in peace my friend.
