Not sure what to say?

I continue to miss Hilary every day. He helped me finish my dissertation a few years before he died. Dr. Beth Bennett

Since his last anniversary I have more than ever thought of what a good man Hilary was. Arms, heart, always open to those who needed him. He fought the good fight, kept the faith, changed lives foreer for the better.

Over these past 50 years, I have thought about Hilary and Pat and for some reason, today, I decided to run a Google Search to learn that he passed away almost seven years ago. Hilary taught at Wheeling College in the 1960's where I attended and what I learned from him in the several theology/philosophy courses and from casual conversations with him has stayed with me throughout my life. We came through turbulent times together and he and Pat were guiding lights through those times. Both...

I am so touched to be able to honor Hilary on this anniversary. A nomad in the desert trying to find a professional way to express my religious/spiritual vocation, I met Hilary in my doctoral studies. Without him, I would not have had the en-courage-ment to attempt and to finish my dissertation, which launched me onto a forty-year career of psychological service especially to youngsters. I retired at 80 this past year, and feel ever more grateful to him for helping me find my way when...

I have no idea why Dr Bender's name just came into my mind. I had him as part of my Education Curriculum at BU in 1971-72. He was smart and always entertaining. God Bless him and the whole family.

Only now, 3 years later did I learn that Dr. Bender passed away. I had written to him earlier in the week after not being in touch in many years, just to update him and to tell that my family and I are doing great, living here in Israel. He would of have loved to know that, I am certain. He was amongst the finest, most caring people I have known, a most righteous and loving man and right now I am remembering the pleasure of our meetings and feeling intense sorrow that I did not contact him...

I just heard of Hilary's passing.

I searched him on Google to express my continuing gratitude and admiration for him. Without him, I would never have succeeded in my Boston University coursework...compassionate, insightful, encouraging, kind, a wonderful mentor.

Dr. Daniel J. Hoy

So sorry to hear of Hilary's passing. He was a true educator and a fantastic human being. He generously agreed to be my major dissertation advisor back in the late 70's and with his guidance and encouragement, I was able to successfully complete my doctorate. My thoughts and prayers with the Bender family. I just know that Hilary is watching over all and is very proud. His was a life well lived.

Barbara and I are taken aback by Hilary's passing. He was all the things that the other condolence-offerers say, a role model for caring cogency. For that matter, we Canadians well remember you Benders with genuine affection. Richard and Barbara Townsend
