Hilda Moore Obituary

Mrs. Hilda Atkins Moore, age 90, of Rome, Georgia, formerly of Kingston, Georgia, for thirty-eight years, died Friday, September 19, 2025. A native of Floyd County, she was born on November 20, 1934, the youngest of ten children born to the late Jesse F. and Vera Sanders Atkins.

Mrs. Moore was a 1952 graduate of Armuchee High School and attended Carroll Lynn Business School. Prior to her retirement in 1990, she was employed by Georgia Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Company and served Bartow County of Cartersville, Georgia, as agent for twenty-four years.

Mrs. Moore was preceded in death by her younger son, Dr. H. Thomas Moore, Jr., in 1993; her older son, C. Reynolds Moore, in 1994; and her husband, Hugh Thomas Moore, Sr., in 2006, along with five sisters and four brothers.

Since 1954, Mrs. Moore was a devoted member of the Kingston United Methodist Church and served on many committees and in other capacities during her membership. The most recent was Trustee Chair for many years. Her love for and from her church family were treasured highlights of her life, but in 2015, due to personal reasons, Mrs. Moore became an inactive member.

Mrs. Moore was a prior supporter of the Kingston United Methodist Church, Murphy Harpst, and United Methodist Children's Home, Rome Symphony Orchestra, local library, The Compassionate Friends, and was a former member of the Rome Area Writers, Kingston Woman's History Club, and a continuing member of Daniel Hanks Society of Darlington School, from where her two sons were graduates in '72 and '75.

A published author, Mrs. Moore's interests included writing, speaking, advocacy, philanthropy, classical music, travel, genealogy, research, and time spent with family and friends. A special joy was to spread love and laughter, which she considered two of God's greatest gifts.

Mrs. Moore is survived by many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends. Also surviving are honorary grandsons, Adam and Greg Smith, and two godsons, Ryan and Matthew Silvers. These four young men filled a great void in her life.

A Celebration of Life Service honoring Mrs. Hilda Moore will be held at one o'clock in the afternoon on Saturday, October 11, 2025, in the Sanctuary of Kingston United Methodist Church. All guests are invited to attend a reception following services.

In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make memorial contributions to Darlington School in memory of Hilda Moore to be applied to the Reyn and Tom Scholarship Fund, or to an institution of your choosing.
