Howard Burtis Obituary

Howard D. Burtis
Mr. Howard David Burtis, CPA, age 64, formerly of Williamstown, New Jersey, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family and friends on Monday, April 26, 2021 at Danbury Hospital.
Born in Philadelphia, PA on December 27, 1956, Howard was the son of Howard O. Burtis, Jr. and Viola Miller Burtis. Howard graduated from Williamstown High School in 1974 and then graduated from Drexel University with a degree in Accounting. Howard began his career working for Richardson-Vicks, Inc. where throughout his time there he traveled all over the world as an internal auditor. His favorite destinations were Singapore and surfing Hawaii. He later established his own accounting practice which he owned and operated for decades prior to taking on partner, Kate Johnson, in 2019, becoming Burtis and Johnson, CPA's.
To know Howard was to love him. Howard's quick wit, sense of humor, and fantastic ability to tell a story made him a welcomed guest in many circles. He was a good-natured, generous man who was a wonderful friend to all. He would be the first to offer help to anyone in need. He enjoyed cooking and was especially known for his pumpkin pies around the holidays, tending to his vegetable garden, and listening to music, his favorite band was the J. Giles Band.
Howard enjoyed playing golf and he was often found at Wingdale National Golf Club with his cohorts, where he played fiercely for their exclusive "Fed Up" Cup. He was also a horseracing enthusiast and attended all of the triple crown races at one time or another, including the Kentucky Derby, on more than one occasion.
Howard is survived by his brother, David Burtis, and his sister, Suzanne Sundmaker, both of New Jersey, as well as his nephew Jeffrey Sundmaker and niece Katie Vasapollo. Howard also leaves behind his many friends who he always appreciated and loved and who became his second family here in Connecticut.
A celebration of Howard's life will be held on Saturday, May 8, 2021, from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. at Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury. Additional services and burial will happen at a later date in Howard's hometown of Williamstown, NJ. Memorial contributions in Howard's name may be made to the charity of your choice. Dear Howard: I will miss my sparring partner - what fun we had making fun of the sometimes ridiculousness of life! Love from me, here in good ol’ England! Deirdre Seeley. Devon, UK

Very sad to hear of Howard's passing. As my tax accountant for almost 20 years, I only saw him once a year, but always enjoyed his sense of humor and personal approach. He was a genuinely good guy, and will be missed.
