Memories of Howard are still vivid and will remain so for me and I'm sure the many whose lives were touched by his friendship. My "Ithaca is Gorges" car sticker required the full outline of Howard Cogan and where to get a tee shirt with it on it when speaking to an acquaintenance who will be visiting in Ithaca this coming summer. I never miss a chance to share Howard's story and let Helen know "I've done it again". Love them all!

Having just re-read Howard's biography, it still boggles my mind to be aware again of all his many accomplishments. Also read many of the sympathy messages posted just after Howard's passing. Not many people will have that many messages of heartfelt love and appreciation of the person that Howard was. As one who knew Howard as a neighbor and friend, I can only say again he was that person as described by so many. He WAS truly loved by this neighbor also! Still in touch with Helen and...

Yesterday, May 14, 2019, the New York Times crossword puzzle featured this clue: __________ is Gorges. Of all of Howards many achievements, I think he would have enjoyed best that his world famous slogan was a New York Times puzzle clue. Eleven years after your passing we still miss you very much. You were one-of-a-kind, my friend.

While I'm already two years too late, I was reminiscing about Howard and his family, whom I knew as a child when growing up in Cortland. After my father passed away and my mother moved to Florida, I attended Cornell's Architecture school and was in touch with Howard and Helen early on. I will remember with great fondness the exuberance, wit and intelligence Howard bestowed upon me. I am saddened to know that he struggled so at the end of his life. My heart goes out to his family.

I just learned of Howard's passing from the IC View which arrived yesterday. I am so sad. Howard was my favorite IC professor and had a profound impact on my life. I send a big hug to Helen and the entire family. He loved all of you so much. I will remember him always.

I just discovered that Howard died. My great fondness for him began 42 years ago, when he hired me as a student intern for the Town Crier.
He and Helen have had a huge influence on my life. They introduced me to liberalism, in pre-liberal Ithaca, taught me community journalism and the courage of iconoclasm, gave encouragement and praise to my eccentric creativity, and reminded me that keeping a sense of humor is essential to success.
Condolences.

In 1966 Howard was the guest lecturer at a Cornell graduate level seminar. After the class I went up to ask him some questions and he offered me a job, part-time until I graduated, fulltime thereafter. I sold ads for the next 18 months for the Towne Crier and added some ad agency clients like ITHACO, Inc., and Al Schauffler's COLLEGE LIQUOR. And learned as Howard shared his knowledge.
40 years later I'm still in the business, as a brand guide and owner of my own company....
