I met Howard back in 2001 - when he served as a substitute teacher for my English classes at Falls Church High School. I always knew that whenever he subbed for my classes, the students' work was always completed and my lesson plans would be carried out to the letter - not to mention, the reports that he left would be written in the most beautiful penmanship! I remember some of the wonderful days that Howard lived and rose to the class of 1950 at the former St. Leo Prep. School near Dade City, Fl. He then went on to the former St. Bernard College, Cullman, ALA. to enter into preliminary formation for the Benedictine Order (O.S.B.) Many years later I reconnected at an alumni reunion and with many mutual visits, especially in FL. we came to respect one another-though differing on some fundamental issues- we enjoyed the good times together.
