Howard Holmes Obituary
CLEVELAND: Howard L. Holmes, 77, of Cleveland, Ohio, passed away on Friday, September 30, 2016, in Warrensville Heights, Ohio. He was born November 10, 1938 to the late Rommie and Mabel (Knox) Holmes in Arkansas.
Howard was a generous, kind, and dedicated man. He graduated in 1957 from Mansfield Senior High School, and went on to start his career in management with Mansfield and Cleveland area grocery stores. He worked in management positions with T&A Safeway in the 1960's, and later at Giant Eagle Stores. Howard also had a long and fulfilling career as a building superintendent in Cleveland. He was a proud United States Army veteran. Bowling with his colleagues and golfing in his later years brought him much enjoyment.
Howard is survived by his two brothers, Arnold Holmes of Columbus and Danny Holmes of Mansfield; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by three brothers, Alvin, Roy, and Rufus Holmes; and one sister, Berta Holmes.
Friends may gather at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond St., Mansfield, from 1:00-2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 13, 2016. A memorial service in Howard's honor will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home, officiated by Robert L. Thompson. Burial will follow in Mansfield Cemetery with full military honors presented by the Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail.

Mr. Holmes was my boss at IGA, he gave me my first real job and opportunity to work and learn the supermarket business. He taught me how to be a true professional. His values and work ethics has resonated with me until this day. My heart goes out to his family. My prayers be with you all. I will miss and cherish the found memories that we had. It was always a pleasure to work with him. He went on later to become my mentor, and he was like a dad to me, he actually gave me away at my wedding.
