Howard Niederman Obituary

Howard Niederman, beloved husband of Rochelle Niederman (nee Levin) Loving father of Kim (Dona) Niederman, Robin (Susan Pihl-Niederman) Niederman, Lisa Niederman, Peter (Linda) Niederman and Christopher (Nicole) Niederman; proud grandfather of Ryan, Brent, Justin, Nicole, Davis, Noelle and Dane. Fond brother of the late Jerry, Stanley and Shirley. Howard was the former CEO and Chairman of Howard Parlor Furniture Company, headquartered in Chicago, for over 30 years. As CEO of Howard Parlor, Howard built the company into a national manufacturing powerhouse revolutionizing the consumer's ability to make ""custom"" choices with fast delivery. This culminated in a merger with publically traded Bath/Congoleum Industries where he served as President of the furniture division. Mr. Niederman was a well-known industry leader and innovative designer for over 50 years; his designs influenced much of today's modern upholstered styles. As a prominent industry executive, he later joined forces with Gerald Birnbach, CEO of Rowe Furniture designing some of Rowe's most successful trend-setting and award-winning furniture designs from the late 1980's through 2007. Howard traveled extensively throughout the United States, Europe and Asia lecturing and leading consumer seminars expounding on the current and future trends of furniture. Howard was considered a visionary; as early as 1967, Howard predicted the emergence of multi-manufacturers under a single corporate umbrella which came to fruition 10 years later. Howard was an avid western horseman winning Reining championships from the 1970's through 1990's. Howard and Rochelle were married for sixty-five years and have known each other since they were 13. Chapel service Friday, 10:30 am, at Weinstein & Piser Funeral Home, 111 Skokie Blvd, Wilmette (One block North of Old Orchard). Interment Westlawn Cemetery. Worked for Mr. Niederman and his family at Howard Parlor Furniture Company on 37th & Ashland in Chicago for ten years and cannot say enough about how great they were to work with. "Personnel Department - Ms. Pat"

I spent a decade with Howard at Rowe. There are fond memories of our dinners together at High Point Market twice each year. But what I cherished most was Howard's holiday gift of one of Rochelle's limited edition equestrian art prints. Rochelle is one of the greatest living photo realist artist in the world. I have collected fine art for 40 years and none exceed the beauty and mastery of Rochelle's works of photo realism.
Howard was so proud of Rochelle's art and spoke so lovingly of her endeavors.
My last memory of Howard was a chance meeting at Chicago's Midway terminal around 2005. As usual he was rushed and walking like a teenager, which made it difficult to talk and catch a breath for the average guy. Howard, we will miss you and your unique style and personality will long be remembered.

My heartfelt condolences to Rochelle and the Niederman Family. I feel privileged to have had him in my life and to have called him "Uncle" Howard. He was always kind, wise and inclusive. The love and appreciation that I have for his role in my life will never die. May you all be comforted by memories of this wonderful man.
