Not sure what to say?

A great teammate at UNC and a lifelong friend from the Bronx, I miss Hughie every day.

To all of us in the Woodlawn gang of St Barnabas Elementary School juvenile delinquents he was "The Bishop." We were in the first grade together. We lived two blocks away from each other. And of course after college and the other events called "life" we parted, later meeting infrequently at basketball games. My mind remains full of those early Bronx days and Jimmy (or Hughie or The Bishop) is a major source of those fond memories. I am greatly saddened to learn of my dear friend's passing. I...

mary , I have just learned of Hughie's death, and wish to extent my sympathy to you and his family / we were teammates at chapel hill, and Hughie was "bigger than life" then- as he has remained in my mind's eye ever since / and he was one of the nicest, kindest and loveable guys I've ever known / may he always rest in peace /we loved him very, very much / Richard vinroot [unc, class of '63, now a resident of charlotte, nc]

I was greatly saddened to hear of Hugh's passing. Many fond memories of my time with Coach "D" at UGA.I loved playing for him! Always upbeat and a smile on his face. My thoughts and prayers to the Donohue family.

Hughie Donohue was a great guy who always had a big smile on his face. I grew up in Woodlawn and being much younger watched
From the sidelines as Hughie, Jimmy O'Keefe, Frank McArdle and Tommy Murray would battle it out on the courts. We all learned how to play hard and their were no open layups everything was a hard foul. All the kids in Woodlawn learned how to play and got scholarships because of those guys. Hughie was a gentle giant!
