Hugh Lawrence McPherson, 54, of Hickory passed away unexpectedly, Saturday, June 28, 2025 at his residence.
Born in Buncombe County on September 7, 1970, he was the son of the late Harold and Vida Lee Goodyear McPherson.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Frank Davis.
Hugh was a 1988 graduate of St. Stephens High School, he lettered in football and baseball, where he broke the all-time home run record. He was shift supervisor at Marcal Paper, an avid hunter and fisherman.
He is survived by his sisters, Valorie McPherson of Fla., Vanessa McPherson of Charleston, SC, Veronica McPherson Bray and husband Aaron of High Point, NC and Vickie McPherson of Hickory; his brothers, Hal McPherson and wife Donna of Hickory, and Heath McPherson of Charlotte, NC.
The family will receive friends Friday, July 11, 2025 from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m. at Hickory Funeral Home.
Memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. at Hickory Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Mark Seaman officiating.

I am sad to hear of Hugh's passing. Coach Frye thought a lot of Hugh and talked often of his Baseball talent. He was a powerhouse hitter. If Coach were here, he would attend the funeral. My condolences to the family.
