Ida Campbell

This marking of Ida's death made me want to add a bit to the note I wrote some years ago! My great-grandfather, John Ashe Moses married Ida's sister, Alice Runyan Moses and they brought Ida to NM when her mother died. Her mother was my father's cousin and he remembered both Ida's fondly. Ida Campbell was a cousin of my father, Donald B. Moses. who passed away in 2008. I had wondered about her through the years since I saw her at the Springs in probably 2009. Fondly remembered by Donald and Tom Moses, she was quite a lady as they would say in the day. Such a hard worker and compiled a great book about turn of the century events in Southwest New Mexico. Ida was a woman with the heart and spirit of a true pioneer. I met her and Doc 57 years ago when I was just a kid. My memories of the Gila Wilderness will always include visits to the Campbell home, horseback riding, playing in the river, and hiking. I last visited with Ida a few years ago at her home at the ranch -- such a beautiful, gracious woman.

I was so saddened to hear of Ida's passing. She was truly a great lady and I was privileged to know here and her lovely family. This year I think I'll put up a batch of her mincemeat recipe in her memory.

I helped build those bridges out to the Cliff Dwellings back in the summer of "66". During that time I was privileged to get to know the Cambells. Diners and hanging out with the kids. I will always be thankful for the kindnesses that were shown to me and my family. We couldn't have asked for better part time neighbors. I enjoyed the insight that her book brought forward. May she rest in peace.

She was a gracious lady, I will always miss her and Doc.
