This marking of Ida's death made me want to add a bit to the note I wrote some years ago! My great-grandfather, John Ashe Moses married Ida's sister, Alice Runyan Moses and they brought Ida to NM when her mother died. Her mother was my father's cousin and he remembered both Ida's fondly. My uncle Thomas Lyons Moses died a few years ago at 98. He carried the Lyons middle name and they were friends and enjoyed the Gila homestead. My grandfather was Horace Moses who lived in Silver City and was the mine supervisor in the 40's. I met Ida briefly and I'd correct the date to 2003 or so because she was finishing the book! So sorry that she lost her sight like like my father did and she lived a long life through many struggles. My nephew was in Gila recently and was surprised about our passing histories. I am in CO now but NM is in my heart. Joanne Moses Bagley

Ida Campbell was a cousin of my father, Donald B. Moses. who passed away in 2008. I had wondered about her through the years since I saw her at the Springs in probably 2009. Fondly remembered by Donald and Tom Moses, she was quite a lady as they would say in the day. Such a hard worker and compiled a great book about turn of the century events in Southwest New Mexico. A tough country and the women tried to inject some fun and society for the early pioneers. The Campbell family has a legacy to be proud of. Tom Moses will turn 97 this March, 2021.

Ida was a woman with the heart and spirit of a true pioneer. I met her and Doc 57 years ago when I was just a kid. My memories of the Gila Wilderness will always include visits to the Campbell home, horseback riding, playing in the river, and hiking. I last visited with Ida a few years ago at her home at the ranch -- such a beautiful, gracious woman.

I was so saddened to hear of Ida's passing. She was truly a great lady and I was privileged to know here and her lovely family. This year I think I'll put up a batch of her mincemeat recipe in her memory.

I helped build those bridges out to the Cliff Dwellings back in the summer of "66". During that time I was privileged to get to know the Cambells. Diners and hanging out with the kids. I will always be thankful for the kindnesses that were shown to me and my family. We couldn't have asked for better part time neighbors. I enjoyed the insight that her book brought forward. May she rest in peace.
