Ignacio ?John? Zarazua, 82, of Topeka, passed away on March 1st (which was his mother?s birthday) at the VA Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Pauline, Kansas on December 6, 1931 the son of Jose and Esther (Servantez) Zarazua.
John was a veteran in the U.S. Army having served during the Korean Conflict.
He was a private Taxi Driver for the Yellow Cab Company.
John enjoyed gardening and had a green thumb. He enjoyed fishing, and was on several bowling leagues. He was an avid KU Basketball fan and enjoyed watching sporting events.
He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church.
John married Celia Morales on September 19, 1954. He is survived by three daughters, Cynthia (Paul Cebar) Zarazua of Milwaukee, WI, Diana Zarazua of Topeka, Elizabeth (Joe McCune) Zarazua of Topeka, five sons, Rojelio Zarazua and Ignacio J. Zarazua Jr. both of Topeka, Frank (Laurie) Zarazua of Ladera Ranch, CA, Richard (Paula) Zarazua of Lawrenceville, GA, and Tino (Claudia) Zarazua of Rancho Belago, CA, his siblings, Danny (Mary Ann) Zarazua, Lupe (Isabel) Zarazua, Ralph (Deb) Zarazua, Linda (Victor) Anguiano, Irene (Lupe) Flores, Vera Zarazua (Rick Mendoza) all of Topeka and Joe (Delores) Zarazua of Bellwood, IL, and sister-in-law, Victoria Zarazua, 15 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brothers, Jesus, Ruben and Benny Zarazua and a sister, Mary Delores Zarazua.
John will lie in state at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home on Friday after 2:00 p.m. where a Parish Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Interment will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery with military honors provided by Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter #604.
Memorial contributions may be made to the VA for gardening therapy and sent in care of Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 SW 6th Ave., Topeka, Kansas 66603.

Mr. Zarazua,as I grew up as a child knowing Him,then later,Johnny,was the most spectacular Mexican Man I knew on so many levels. Johnny had a warm demeanor,a very generous heart as that He took my Mom,Mary Rocha,as He always called her,ANYWHERE she needed to go,and there aren't too many men out there today that look after their buddy's widows like this anymore,which is what made Johnny so spectacular. Hold on the the memories and he will be in your hearts forever. John was a good friend of my dad's (Ben Ortiz) I have known him all of my life. My he rest in peace. It will be hard not seeing him sitting on his porch waving as you go by.
