Irene Carter Franklin was born March 5th 1935 (86), in East Chicago, Indiana, passed away on Friday 11/5/2021 in Ft Wayne, IN. She was the daughter of William Carter Sr and Grace Carter.


Viewing will be at 9:00AM and Memorial Service at 11:00AM Tuesday, November 13, 2021 at Smith - Bizzell & Warner Funeral Home in Gary, Indiana. Burial will follow at Fern Oak Cemetery in Griffith, Indiana.


Irene attended school in the East Chicago School System, where she graduated from Washington High School. Irene met the love of her life and  married John H. Franklin in East Chicago, Indiana. Irene worked as a nurses assistant and secretary for St. Catherines Hospital for over 30 years.  She loved God and  was involved in Church. Irene honored God she was faithful truthful and worked hard in everything she put her hands to.


Irene was a loving wife and mother of 3 beautiful children, she was kind soft spoken and strong.


Irene led a life that made a difference in every person that she touched and always in a positive way. She was caring, loving and always had a reassuring word for those around her. She loved the Lord and spread His joy wherever she went. She was a joy to be around and lit up any room she was in. If you an opportunity to be around her you would never forget her. Irene was beautiful outside and had a beautiful spirit.  Mother encouraged and supported each of her  children and grandchildren she always gave words of wisdom for all. Mom also had a great sense of humor that would have us laughing at some of  her saying. She was a woman of integrity and honest to a fault.  She was extremely generous and willing to help where and when needed.


Irene Carter Franklin was preceded in death by her husband John H. Franklin. Her parents William (Grace) Carter; siblings Robert Carter, Stanley Carter, Williams Carter, Jr., Edward Carter, Rozell Carter, Cedric Carter, Willie Grace Jackson, Delphine Boyd, Ma Frances Mitchell, Ilonia Edwards and Vivian Buggs.


She leaves behind three children; Dartania Franklin (Ft. Wayne, IN), John Eric Franklin (Ft Wayne, IN) and Keith Franklin (Charlotte, NC). 7 Grand Children and 10 Great Grand children, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, many friends, co-workers and acquaintances over the years who contributed to her living a wonderful life.


The Franklin family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the Doctor’s, nurse’s, organizations and special persons who played a part in the final weeks of her life.

I was sad to hear the passing of my SIS-in-Law Irene praying for you // sorry I was not there on vacation Love you Aunt Val.

I first met Irene at the wedding of my son Tony and her granddaughter Marja. We instantly connected because of her warm friendly spirit. She was truly a loving Mom, Grandma and Great Grandma. She was loved and adored by all! My sincere condolences to all of the family. She will be greatly missed.

She was one of the nicest person's that I've ever known. Our husbands were cousins. She always had a smile and kind words to share. May God Continue To Bless Her Family.
