David Merrell

I greatly appreciated the years I spent working with Dave. He was my manager but I always felt more like a partner in achieving our mission. Most of all I knew I could trust him, including that he would seek what was best for the FHLB Seattle.
He also cared about us, a sense of responsibility on a personal basis. It was also fun because he was smart. That "consulting" group was the smartest collection I have ever worked with, the only time I did not know if I was the most capable in what we did.
I remember on a flight to a Florida meeting he suddenly announced he had figured out, based on the number of passengers, fuel costs, etc. how must the airline lost on that flight.
Another time we were running models in our strategy workshops when he encountered a programming problem he had to get a work-around for that took an hour or so. He was very proud of solving it on his own and it was so funny later as he seemed deeply offended when the customer complained in the review that he did not know how to run the model. I was the "expert" and was impressed by his solution.
Dave was/is a good, good man that I was privileged to work with.

Dear Cousin Laurie,
This must have been an unimaginable shock to lose David so suddenly, and on the cusp of retirement travel together.
Our thoughts will be with you tomorrow at the service, which I'm sure will be a loving tribute. We'll also keep you and the boys in our thoughts in the days ahead.
Love,
Cousin Joan-Dianne, James, and family

When I see Davis's smile in this photo, it brings a smile to my heart.
Bob and I remember our great times with you with lots of laughter and lots of fun!
We are so sorry and our hearts ache for you Laurie, Brian and Steven.
I hope that we can connect with you later this summer, Laurie.
I'll call you in a week or two!
Love and hugs,
Myrna and Bob
