I will not forget Leo McCarthy. As a newcomer both to Jamaica Plain and to the U.S., I saw at once that the Arnold Arboretum needed to reconnect with the community. Leo was one of the first to offer a helping hand - both kindly advice and the odd stern comment! I reckon we did pretty well during those years thanks to people like Leo, people who wanted to see Jamaica Plain a better place, with all of us playing our part. Mr. McCarthy,
Sir, I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for our Country when you served in the U.S. Army during WW II and for being a member of the Greatest Generation. And to your family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.

My condolences to all the McCarthy children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

I have wonderful memories of Leo as a neighbor when I was young, as an "uncle" always, and, together with Barbara, as a great and loyal friend of my parents Tom and Margaret Cavanaugh.
