Jack Kirsch

As the immediate past Director of the UCB Retirement Center, I had the pleasure of working at times with Jack in his role on the UCB Emeriti Assn. Board of Directors. Always a thoughtful, considerate and inquisitive person, he worked diligently and with diplomacy on the association's luncheon programs. He was an easy and enjoyable colleague for continuing learning in retirement for the next chapter lives of Berkeley retirees.

As I reflect on the (significant) role Jack played in my life, I feel grateful that Jack accepted me into his lab. He had many great qualities, and I especially appreciated the freedom he granted to me in pursuing my research interests. His relentless pursuit of clear scientific communication was admirable, and I improved under his guidance in this area. What sad news. I remember Jack with great fondness to this day. I, like many others, owe him such a debt of gratitude for what he invested in others. His legacy lives on. We exchanged letters every year at Christmas time and I will miss this.
