Jack Norris Obituary

JACK R. NORRIS, 86, departed this life on Friday, June 10, 2005, with his family present. Born at home, in Albion, to Ethel (Randall) and Ben Norris, he served In the Civilian Conservation Corps at Pokagon State Park. He served in the U.S. Army as a Tech Sergeant during World War II for four years. On Nov. 29, 1947 he married Ruby Long. He retired from GTE in 1983 as a lineman after 40 years. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 160, member of the 40 and 8, V.F.W. and lifetime member of Fort Wayne Beagle Club. He enjoyed raising, training and running Beagle trial dogs all across the country. He was a helpful, generous man and will be missed by everyone who knew him. He is survived by, son, John Norris of Roanoke; daughters, Kathy (Denis) Dearduff and Karen (Bill) Brincefield, both of Roanoke; eight grandchildren; brothers, Rex Norris and Joe Norris, both of Texas, Kenny Norris of Michigan; sisters, Emmogene Long, Evelyn Moore and Katherine Weber, all of Albion; he was blessed with a wonderful caregiver and friend of 11 years, Debbie Miller. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Ruby, in 1983; his parents; and two brothers, Alton Norris and Raydean Norris. Service is 10 a.m. Tuesday at D.O. McCombs & Sons Covington Knolls Funeral Home, 8325 Covington Road, with calling one hour prior. Calling is from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial at Highland Park Cemetery. Memorials to 40 and 8 Nurses Scholarship Fund.

He was like a grandfather to me. I knew him from the beagle club. Jack and Ruby will always be dear to my heart.
