Dr. Sisson (at that time he was Mr. Sisson, no PHD in music yet) entered into my life in the fall of 1953 when the 4th grade class of Ida Freeman School, Edmond, OK. began beginners band under Dr. Sisson's direction. We began with $1.00 tonetts, now called recorders. Those whose parents could buy instruments continued with private instruments (no school instruments were provided back in the day.) My lessons on the B flat clarinet continued until I had finished the 6th grade. At that time...

I remember Dr Sisson as a kind and patient teacher as well. I have fond memories of my clarinet lessons in 1978-79. He was always so witty and had the sparkliest eyes.

Jack Sisson was an inspiration to so many, whether they studied with him or had the priviledge to perform with him or were involved in musical conversation. I first remember asking him upon advice of music educators to do a clinic for my concert band at Blackwell, Oklahoma around 1964. He was phenomenal and from that time on, I tried to associate with him when possible. He made a huge impact with educators in our state and region. A class guy in every way. In my years of teaching, if I...

I experienced Dr Sisson as a beginning clarinet student at Russell Dougherty from 1953-1956 and as a scholarship bass clarinet student at Central State from 1960-1961. He was a great teacher in a positive inspirational way. Although my life did not continue in music, Dr Sisson's influence on work ethic and attention to detail became valuable assets. I am truly honored to have known him and saddened by his passing.

With deepest sympathy,

Richard L Johnson DDS

I was a 4th grade student at Ida Freeman Grade School 1954-1955, when I had my first music lesson from Mr. Sisson. What a kind patient teacher.

Jerry and I are thankful for the opportunity of having such a fine educator as Dr. Sisson be a part of our life. As a teacher, friend, boss, fellow musician, etc. he influenced a lot of people's lives. I have fond memories of working for him in the music office as a student secretary, when he was Chairman of the Music ...Dept...He was a lot of fun to be around...He was a serious musician, a excellent band director/teacher. Dr. Sisson you will live on in every life you touched.

I was a music major at UCO from 1972-1976. I took clarinet lessons from Dr. Sisson. He pushed me to do more than I knew I could do. Excellence was prime when you took lessons from him.

I am sad to learn from a friend today of Dr. Sisson's death. He was a great guy!!. He had that sparkle in his eye and a wonderful smile. I also remember how serious he could get and how he'd set that jaw to be even more stern. He taught us that look because he said we'd need it when we became band...

He was my neighbor, from the time I was 4 til I was 13, he was the sweetest. He taught me how to feed his horses and play a few songs on the piano. I will always remember him.
