I worked with Jake at Westgate for several years until his retirement and always enjoyed listening to shared experiences from his many years in the classroom. My condolences to Gary and his family.

Jake Black taught pottery to seniors and he was exceptional. We became friends and he made urns for my mother and husband and for me. We have lost a kind, wonderful, caring man. My heartfelt condolences to his family.

The world has lost a great man. Jake was my pottery teacher and friend. Many hours were spent with the two of us making pots and sharing stories about ourselves and our families; he was so proud of his family . I am so fortunate to be able to call this wonderful human my friend. Thank you so much for leaving a little bit of your art and pottery legacy with so many people Earth side.

So very sorry to learn of Mr. Black's passing. I have so many fond memories of him as my art teacher at Westgate. I took every class he offered! He was kind, encouraging and a true gentleman. Sincere condolences to his family and friends. Lori Robinson (nee Dean)

I will always remember Jake as a warm, smiling, engaging, and talented teacher, artist, and individual who made a real difference in Thunder Bay. How fortunate we are to have lived in the times of Jake Black!
