I was deeply saddened to see that your mother had died. I know that she was also a true friend throughout your life. The obituary and article about your mother told the story of a most impressive, well-lived life. She is at peace now.

As a teacher of Jackie Ashmore at the Oakland High School I am humbled to read of the depth and breath of her many accomplishments. I read the paper online and don't keep as up to date as I should, so I missed the services for your Mom, and I'm sorry about that. It's sad for any of us when a parent goes. Yor Mom had a long and good life, good kids, and many great friends. Maybe none of us can ask for more.

As a graphic technician and cartographer for the Coles County Regional Planning & Developmemt Commission (1980-2000), I spent considerable time in the Clerks Office gathering information for my work. Jackie and I would look at each other and parrot, "Hi Jackie" then have a hearty laugh. She was one of the 'mainstays' of the courthouse that made working there a pleasurable experience. Jackie will always stand out in my mind as a good friend and a true helper. In the '60s and 70s, when I was managing editor of the Charleston newspaper, she and I spend many hours seeking a myriad of information in the County Clerk's office. I'm so sorry she had to undergo such difficult circumstances and my prayers go out to her family.

She was a very dedicated lady who gave so much to the community, as well as to her family and friends. May the special memories that you hold in your heart, ease the pain of your loss.

I have several great memories of Jackie's patience and cooperation when I was a teenaged genealogist/historian invading the Coles County Clerk's Office seeking information on my ancestors. She also was very helpful in arranging for the purchase of a large filing cabinet to hold the "cemetery cards" of the Coles County Historical Society and making them available to the public and later arranging for their transfer to the Coles County Genealogical Society Library.
