Vicki
I was deeply saddened to see that your mother had died. I know that she was also a true friend throughout your life. The obituary and article about your mother told the story of a most impressive, well-lived life. She is at peace now.
Please also accept my condolences on the death of Glenn's mother.

As a teacher of Jackie Ashmore at the Oakland High School I am humbled to read of the depth and breath of her many accomplishments. After leaving the Oakland High School Faculty , Jackie and Edna Knight visited me in Lovington, Illinois. She never forgot me. Jackie and Marcellus Bacon came to my 90th birthday party. My empathy to you, Marcelllus, as you are forced to live a single life after years of love and close companionship. I extend my sympathy to Vickie, Terry, and your mates. You are forced to move to a higher role. Mother isn't readily availble to go to for advice and comfort. Time softens the grief but never goes completely away. To all the grand children, great grandchildren and friends I offer my sympathy. When someone lives a beautiful life they leave behind beautiful memories for all to cherish. You have a great example to follow. May God bless you as you continue your lives. Beulah Tolch Walker.

I read the paper online and don't keep as up to date as I should, so I missed the services for your Mom, and I'm sorry about that. It's sad for any of us when a parent goes. Yor Mom had a long and good life, good kids, and many great friends. Maybe none of us can ask for more.
My sympathies to you and your Dad.

As a graphic technician and cartographer for the Coles County Regional Planning & Developmemt Commission (1980-2000), I spent considerable time in the Clerks Office gathering information for my work. Jackie and I would look at each other and parrot, "Hi Jackie" then have a hearty laugh. She was one of the 'mainstays' of the courthouse that made working there a pleasurable experience. I always enjoyed talking to her even though it occured infrequently after we both retired and wish to extend my sincere sympathy to her family.

Jackie Bacon, What can I say that everybody does not already know. What a very special lady. When I was elected to the county board she was there to take my hand and show me the ropes, she had so many friends. I am a better person for knowing her. God bless her family. Keith Eaton

Jackie will always stand out in my mind as a good friend and a true helper. In the '60s and 70s, when I was managing editor of the Charleston newspaper, she and I spend many hours seeking a myriad of information in the County Clerk's office. I'm so sorry she had to undergo such difficult circumstances and my prayers go out to her family.

We would like to extended our deepest sympathy to Jackie's family.
She was a very dedicated lady who gave so much to the community, as well as to her family and friends. May the special memories that you hold in your heart, ease the pain of your loss.

I have several great memories of Jackie's patience and cooperation when I was a teenaged genealogist/historian invading the Coles County Clerk's Office seeking information on my ancestors. She also was very helpful in arranging for the purchase of a large filing cabinet to hold the "cemetery cards" of the Coles County Historical Society and making them available to the public and later arranging for their transfer to the Coles County Genealogical Society Library. She loaned copies of several genealogical works that she had that she knew would be important historical records. Partially because of her mother, Grace Higgs Ashmore's influence, Jackie was very aware of the importance of history and family history. These are just some things that I wanted remembered at the passing of this woman, who contributed in so many ways to the history of Coles County. She also had a great smile with her red hair and dangling earrings!
