Jacqueline Strickland Obituary

Jacqueline Jane Strickland, affectionately known to most as "Jackie Jane", was welcomed to her eternal home on Tuesday, March 21, 2023, at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia "CHOP".

Jackie Jane was born on February 17, 2023, in Charlottesville, Va., to John Malcolm Strickland and Kelly Ann Strickland. Jackie Jane was a fighter from her first breath that most thought she would not ever take. She was born prematurely with a severe heart defect, Hypoplastic left heart syndrome, HLHS and Kabuki Syndrome. Jackie Jane spent time in the NICU at the University of Virginia before being life flighted to CHOP for an emergency heart surgery. After a few weeks, it was evident Jackie Jane was nearing the end of her tremendous fight for life. She defeated the odds, day in and day out, leaving her team of Doctors and family astounded by her resilience and strength.

Jackie Jane was preceded in death by maternal great-grandparents, Elmer and Jeannette Singo, Roy Winter, and Joseph Brennan; paternal great-grandfathers, Barry McMenamy and Donald Strickland; and uncle, Michael Strickland.

She leaves to cherish her, her parents, Malcolm and Kelly (Winter) Strickland; big brothers, Atticus and Homer; and big sister, Sally; maternal grandparents, Steven and Jacqueline Winter; great-grandmother, Ann Brennan; paternal grandparents, Mary Jane (McMenamy) Strickland, and Mark and Elizabeth Strickland; great-grandmothers, Mary Jane McMenamy and Carol Strickland; paternal aunts and uncles, Jack, Matthew and Amanda and Katherine Strickland; maternal aunt and uncles, Mark and Dorothy, Angela and Michael, Stephanie and Adam, David and Jordine, and Joseph; and cousins, Paxton, Levi, Stella, Grace, Charlotte, Theodore, Eleanor, Evelyn, Scarlett, Juliette, Gianna, Ella, Anthony, Dominic, LillyAnne, Trevor, Sky, Kyle, Trey, Destiny, Samantha, Jacob, Natalie, Andrew, Timothy, Veronica, Hannah, Logan, Ryder and Alexander.

"Whoever humbles himself like this child, he is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. Whoever receives one such child in my name receives me. See that you do not despise one of these little ones; for I tell you that in heaven their angels always behold the face of my Father, who is in heaven." - Matthew 18:1-5, 10-14

Her parents would like to thank the family, friends, medical staff, and all who have prayed and supported Jackie Jane throughout the journey. A heartfelt thanks would also like to be extended to St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Teague Funeral Home, and St. Peter and Paul's Church for their professional care.

The family welcomes all to join them for a funeral mass at 1 p.m. on Monday, March 27, 2023, at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 401 Alderman Rd., Charlottesville, VA 22903. Immediately following mass, Jackie Jane will make her final journey to her place of rest at Monticello Memory Garden, 670 Thomas Jefferson Pkwy., Charlottesville VA 22902. A memorial reception will follow at Roslyn Farms, 100 Roslyn Heights Road, Charlottesville, VA 22901.
