James Edward Adams, the son of the late Lewis and Mable Adams was born November 11, 1940 in Charlotte, NC. He departed this life on early Monday morning, July 25, 2022.  James was a 1958 graduate of West Charlotte Senior High School.  He worked as a carpenter with his father for a few years, before enlisting in the United States Navy on November 1, 1963.  After 29 years of service, he honorably retired on April 1, 1993.  James served as a Seaman Apprentice, Fireman, Machinist’s Mate Third Class, Machinist’s Mate Second Class and Machinist’s Mate First Class on several ships during his service in the United States Navy.  James was stationed in Newport, RI, Honolulu, HI, Alameda, CA and San Diego, CA during his service.

James was instrumental in caring for his parents until their deaths.  James was a loving, caring, creative, funny and skillful individual to all that he met through his travels.  He was a doting uncle and brother. James loved fishing and spending time with his family.  He is survived by his brother, Willie L. Adams (Betty) of Charlotte, NC and his sister Mary Adams Manuel (Mark) of Boston, MA. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Valerie, Carol, Wesley, Angela, Shewan, Marixa, Marlindsey, Marlis and Kenneth Jr; and a host of great nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Not sure what to say?

James and I met in Hawaii in 1978. He was standing on the ship and yelled at me. He told me STOP. WAIT. I'LL BE RIGHT THERE. I don't know why, but I did. We went to Lunch and we were Friends until he passed. My Mother, Sister, Brother, Son, and I all LOVED James Edward Adams. He was and will ALWAYS be a Part of our Family. So with heartfelt LOVE, I say Goodbye to Petty Officer First Class James Edward Adams. I LOVE you THEN, NOW and FOREVER.❤

Rest in Power Uncle James. Thank you for your service. Gone but never will be gotten. Your spirit lives within your family.

My deepest condolences to the family of Mr. James Adams. Growing up in Oakland, CA in the '70s and '80s, James and his family were friends with my mother and father and the two families did a lot together. After James moved back to NC we fell out of touch until about 2014 and we spoke a few times a year. James I will miss you terribly, you are an unforgettable soul and I will always have fond memories of our family vacations at the Monterey Jazz Festival; cruising around Oakland with you and...

God Bless this Family of Mr.James thru this time of sorrow. I didn't know Mr.James personally but the times that we did talk he seem like a very good man I used to run into Mr.James over at Rudean's restaurant and lounge alot. So sorry to hear Peace and Blessings!
