James Chambers Obituary

Chambers, James
James P. Chambers, age 94, of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, died Sunday, August 20, 2017 in Gahanna, Ohio. He was born February 12, 1923 in Chattanooga, Tenn., a son of the late James R. and Lucile Perry Chambers. James retired from the City of Columbus as Director of Human Services following over 25 years of service. A devoted father, grandfather and brother, he will be deeply missed by his children, Carla Chambers, Cedra (Charles) Westbrook, Cy Chambers, Charles (Nichole) Chambers and Clay (Cheryl) Chambers; his nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and special friend, Sophia George. Also survived by his brother, Ghentel (Priscilla) Chambers; and sisters, Bettye Jo Buckner and Martina Miller; several nieces, nephews and many friends. Besides his parents, James was preceded in death by a daughter Jordina Tucker and sisters Shirley Melrose, Willadean Simmons and LaVerne Stevenson. He attended Knoxville College where he played football and following World War II, returned to Tennessee State University and graduated with a degree in Agricultural Sciences with a minor in Education. In 1948 he married Juliette Epps and from that union they had five children. He was a longtime member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. He was a member of Rogers Memorial Baptist Church, Knoxville, TN and Union Grove Baptist Church in Columbus, OH. James enjoyed all kinds of jazz music, rooting for his Buckeyes and Browns and he loved to grill, especially his slow cooked homemade ribs - there were none better. Friends may call 11 a.m.-12 noon Saturday, August 26, 2017 at the SCHOEDINGER MIDTOWN CHAPEL, 229 E. State Street, Columbus, OH 43215, where memorial service will be held 12 noon Saturday. I send my condolences to the Chambers family on the passing of James "Jim" Chambers. I met Mr. Chambers about 20 years ago while working security in various locations throughout Columbus. He was always well dressed and was the catalyst for my making sure my uniform and shoes were impeccable.I carried that trait in to my law enforcement career and in the present. Mr. Chambers will be missed. May the peace of GOD be with the family during this difficult time.

In times like these, we must remember what we have been promised by God - 'I will never leave you nor forsake you'. Be comforted, dear family - always remember and cherish the good times spent with him. He is now resting safely and comfortably with the angels - they have welcomed him into Paradise. Rest in Peace, Cousin James - always loved your smile and ability to make those around you very happy.

To the Entire Family and Friends of a man who had integrity, wit and drive. I met him as a teen thru CETA, he supported all with great demand that ,"changes make champions,' and that all of us in that room could have a impact on the world. You are a hero to many.
