One of my favorite memories is a dinner in Kansas City. Sue Troutner and I went with Jim and Lucille to a ragtime concert in Kansas City and ate dinner at the Peachtree restaurant which was across the street from the concert. It was a very fine restaurant and we had a wonderful dinner. As we were about to leave, Jim knocked over a full class of water and water and ice were flying everywhere. In order to keep the water off the floor we grabbed the edges of the tablecloth and lifted them up to sort of form a dyke to keep the water off the floor. What a mess! We them left the restaurant and wondered if they would ever let us in again. They did, but unfortunately the restaurant is now closed. Sue and I spent many wonderful evenings with Jim and Lucile enjoying fine music.

One of the many pleasures of teaching lifelong learning courses for Osher over several years has been the opportunity to get to know Dr. Jim Denninghoff. He enrolled in many of my classes, and his jovial and inquiring presence at each class meeting was always a major contribution to the experience of the other students as well as for me as the challenged teacher. Jim was generous, kind, enthusiastic, stimulating. His participation enlivened and improved my courses and I will miss him sadly. To his family, and especially to Lucille, I extend my deepest sympathy and want to express my sorrow at the family's and Lucille's loss, sorrow which I share. Thomas F. Dillingham
