James Robert Dougherty

James Robert Dougherty, 98, of Katy, Texas, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, June 5th. He is joined, once again, with his deceased beloved wife, Maria Dolores (married 71years) & his deceased son Brian. He leaves behind his daughter, Elaine Romagna & son-in-law Paul Romagna, son Glenn, daughter Joyce Orloff, son James E. and his daughter-in-law Lynda Mauney. He has 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He also has a lot of extended querida familia throughout Mexico and the United States. James was born in Milton, Massachusetts November 7, 1926 His father was Albert (Aloysius) Regis Dougherty and his mother Lillian Josephine Ready and his sister Eleanor. James attended Quincy High School and in his senior year, at 17 years old (1944), enlisted in the navy to serve his country during world war II. He was a torpedo man on the destroyer ship USS IZARD DD589. He served in the Pacific in many battles, including battle of Phillippine Sea, Iwo Jima and in occupied Japan until his honorable discharge in May 1946. He graduated from Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts with an excellent academic record. His profession, as he liked to joke CIA - a spy - but was really a Certified Internal Auditor. Being the adventurer and wanting to see the world he started his career in the oil industry in Venezuela with Menegrande. It was destiny… as there, his boss happened to also be the father of his future bride. He met his wife Dolores in Maracaibo, Venezuela and they were married in Tampico, Mexico March 6, 1954. They lived in many countries throughout the world; including many cities in Venezuela, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Santiago, Chile and Houston, Texas. Their worldly vacation travels took them to Argentina, Uruguay, Peru, Brazil, Mexico, England, Spain, Germany, Italy, Thailand, Singapore & Hong Kong. They shared an exciting, wonderful life with many long lasting friendships. Dolores and Jim finally settled in Katy, Texas. He loved golf, reading, studying history, bar-b-queing and old TCM black & white movies. He enjoyed so much the company of his longtime friends and he & his wife entertained frequenty making funfilled memories. He had a great sense of humor, told funny old jokes and loved singing "with" Dean Martin and Mariachi music and Irish tunes… He always toasted to life with his 5:00pm martini … Most of all he loved his family, his grandchildren and great grandchildren. His home was filled with wonderul times around the dinner table, singing and dancing - just don't touch the tv remote… Affectionately known as Papa Jim, he will be deeply missed.
