To All the Downes Family Members...
Remembering Ed at this time is such a mixture of sadness, appreciation and fondness. We will certainly miss his friendly and considerate presence in the neighborhood, as he never failed to demonstrate his genuine concern for all of us - as well as our children, our homes, our jobs and our pets! His remarkable memory and continued interest in all facets of life were admirable. He was a wonderful role model and dear friend. We will miss him.

I am very sorry. We were best friends in college. We met at Chateau Frontenac at a New Year Eve party, 1928-29, in Quebec. At the costume party, Eddie appeared as a North End vegetable vendor complete with cart he brought from Boston. Later we met as freshman at Harvard during try-outs for freshmen football manager.
