James HARTMAN Obituary

News Death Notice

HARTMAN, James (Jim) Eugene age 71, died unexpectedly on October 24 2013 at Wilcox Memorial Hospital in Lihue, Kauai, Hawaii. He was born in Middletown Ohio to James L. and Lois J. (Kendig) Hartman. Jim always lived in Middletown and graduated from Middletown High School in 1960. He attended Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green Ohio on a basketball scholarship and Morehead State University in Morehead Kentucky. In March 1962 Jim joined Armco Steel Corp. and retired after 36 years working mostly in the ZINCGRIP coating department. He then worked for 13 years as a Customer Technical Services consultant at AK Steel Corp. traveling to various automotive manufacturing plants (mainly GM plants in Indianapolis and Marion Indiana). Jim loved basketball playing all through school at Middletown and college. He faithfully followed the Middletown Middies as a season ticket holder for years. Jim also followed Ohio State football and all the other local colleges. Jim had a contagious laugh, gentle soul, playful nature, love of life and family. His children and granddaughter were the love of his life. Jim loved the beach and traveling to new places. One of his favorite places to visit was our resort at the Point at Poipu in Poipu Kauai. We were visiting there when he passed away. We will return to spread some of his ashes at the turtle feeding spot where he visited daily. We will also spread his ashes at Oceanside 99 in Ormond Beach Florida. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, sons James E. Hartman II and David S. Hartman and grandparents Walter and Hazel Kendig. He is survived by his wife of 42 years Laqueta (Lee) McCoy Hartman, daughter Alison Free (Dave Tolle), granddaughter Makenzie Free, brother William Hartman (Patricia Henderson Hartman) and nephews Eric Hartman (Stephanie) and Todd Hartman, brother-in-law Steve McCoy (Phyllis), sister-in-laws Emily Harris (Paul), Melody Blatt (Greg), Hazel McCoy plus numerous nieces and nephews, great friends from high school, AK Steel and the GM plants in Indy and Marion, IN. The family will receive friends at Bethlehem Lutheran Church from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm on November 9 with the Memorial service immediately following. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 212 South Broad Street, Middletown OH 45044. Cremation was at Borthwick Kauai Mortuary in Koloa, Kauai Hawaii.
