James HINES Obituary

HINES, James Parker Sr. "Jim" passed away unexpectedly on August 4, 2023. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Nadyne Piowaty Hines, and his two beloved sons and their wives, Jim Jr. (Kristy) and Robert (Debbie), as well as seven grandchildren, Logen, Lauren, Jakob, Emily, Parker, Joshua and Madison, all of Tampa, FL. Jim was preceded in death by the unexpected passing of his beloved daughter, Jennifer, on March 21, 1993, and his parents, Larry and Bettie, and his brother, Kent. Jim was born in Toledo, OH on March 1, 1943, and moved to Miami, FL in 1955. Jim attended Coral Gables High School where he met the love of his life, Nadyne. After graduating from Coral Gables, Jim attended Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, where he received his undergraduate degree in economics and a master's degree in accounting. Jim received both degrees with highest honors. Not only was Jim extremely bright but he was also an outstanding athlete who played on the varsity squash team at the University of Pennsylvania. After graduating from Penn, Jim attended the University of Florida where he received his Juris Doctor degree. Jim and Nadyne were married on September 9, 1967, while Jim was in law school and their first child, Jim Jr., was born in August of 1968 during Jim's second year of law school. Jim was selected as Executive Editor of the University of Florida Law Review and was a professor in the Accounting Department of the University of Florida College of Business while attending law school. After law school, Jim and Nadyne moved to Alexandria, VA while Jim served as Attorney-Advisor for the United States Tax Court in Washington, DC, and in January of 1970 their second child, Robert, was born. Jim and Nadyne moved back to Miami in 1971 and Jim went to work for a major transactional law firm, and while in Miami, their third child, Jennifer, was born. Jim and his family moved to Tampa in 1974 where Jim worked for a large law firm in the tax department. After a year, Jim decided to start his own firm where Nadyne was unofficially in charge of marketing and Jim focused on the law. In 1976, Jim purchased an old colonial home in Hyde Park that was previously a fraternity house for the University of Tampa. Jim moved his law practice to the colonial home, and with Nadyne's help, the law firm flourished. Jim never turned a client away because they could not pay; he was an old-school attorney (without a cell phone) with a soft spot in his heart for helping pastors, churches, and Christian organizations. Jim considered most of his clients as friends. Jim, who practiced in the areas of tax, corporate, and estate planning, retired from the practice of law in 2017 after an amazing 47-year career. Jim was very fortunate in that he chose a career that allowed him to help others and one that he truly enjoyed. When Jim retired, he was blessed to have his two sons, Jim Jr. and Robert, as his law partners, along with Chris Norman, who joined the firm in March of 1993. Jim was very proud of his children and grandchildren. Some of his fondest memories were those of him coaching his boys in baseball, which usually resulted in successful seasons and advancing in post season tournaments. Jim loved spending time with his family, playing golf, hunting pheasants in South Dakota and fishing in Canada, Alaska and South America. Anyone who knew Jim knew he was a strong man of faith. Jim was a member of Idlewild Baptist Church. A Celebration of Life will be held this Saturday, August 12, see Blount and Curry Funeral Home, website for location. Visitation will start at 12:30 with a service following at 1:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the Jennifer Ann Hines Memorial Scholarship Foundation Charitable Trust. www.blountcurrycarrollwood.com
