Bradley's Funeral Chapel - Chilhowie Obituary

CHILHOWIE, VA

James Walter “Jim” Lundy, Jr. age 61, went Home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Jim was born on February 10, 1964, in Fairfax County, VA. He was a graduate of King University, where he earned master’s degrees in both nursing and business administration. Guided by a deep and unwavering faith, Jim spent more than three decades in ministry, pastoring congregations with compassion and dedication. Most recently, he served the community of Azen Baptist Church in Konnarock. His heart for helping others extended far beyond the pulpit—over the course of his 40-year nursing career, he devoted the last 25 years to the SWVA Mental Health Institute, where he served as Chief Director of Nursing and Guidance Coordinator.

Jim’s greatest joy was his family. He treasured every moment spent with his grandchildren, whose laughter and love meant the world to him. In quieter moments, he could often be found cheering on his beloved Georgia Bulldogs. Jim’s faith, love, and gentle spirit will be forever remembered by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents, James W. Lundy, Sr., and Lynda McClure Lundy.

He is survived by his three children Whitney Pennington & husband Matthew, Aaron Lundy & wife Amelia, and Joshua Lundy & wife Courtney; brother Sammy Lundy; grandchildren Carson, Cayden, & Mattie Pennington, Nora & Edith Lundy, and Addilynn Lundy; nephew Tyler Lundy & wife Lauren; special friends Paul Shepherd, Gene Trent, and Ben Hayes; and his loving church families.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM, Saturday, August 16, 2025, from the Bradley’s Funeral Chapel in Chilhowie with Pastor Robert Blevins and Pastor Joey Roland officiating. Interment will follow at Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00-2:00PM, on Saturday at the funeral chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Azen Baptist Church. Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.bradleysfh.com. Bradley’s Funeral Chapel of Chilhowie is serving the Lundy Family.

Not sure what to say?

The heart sometimes has a hard time putting into words and there just simply aren't enough kind words to say about this dear, hard-working, gentle, kind man who always had a funny story to tell. His faith was strong and always tempered what he said. We were discussing pickle recipes and my multiple failed attempts - he brought me a jar of the best tasting crisp pickles I had ever eaten! While our hearts are saddened by his illness and how swiftly it took him from us, we have hope only found...

Sammy and family, I was sad to hear this news. May God be with you during this very hard time and the days ahead. worked with Jim at SWSMHI. Sammy, you are in my thoughts and prayers.

You all are in our thoughts and prayers. May God guide each of you during this difficult time. Take comfort in knowing that Mr Lundy (Jimmy) touched so many with his infectious laugh, nursing care, and by sharing his faith with those around him.

Whitney, Aaron, & Joshua, we are so sorry for your heartbreak at this sad time in your lives. May the precious memories you each have of your good times with your Dad be a comfort in the days ahead. There will be a glad reunion one day.

The things I will remember most about Jim are his laugh, his humble nature, and most of all the discussions we had about faith. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Knowing he is with our Lord makes me smile through the sadness. He is truly at home and has perfect peace now. May prayers for peace and comfort for the family during this time.

From the Rena Hash family. We were blessed to have him oversee her service in whitetop a few months ago. Sad to hear this news. May God's word and his service to God comfort the family.

So sorry for your lost.
