James Richard Paulk

WILLIAMSBURG - James Richard Paulk, 78, died Wednesday, November 27th at Consulate Health Care in Williamsburg, VA with his son, James Jr. by his side. The immediate family will receive a service privately at Nelsen Funeral Home. The Paulks invite everyone to join them for a memorial service which will be held on Tuesday December 3rd, 7:00pm at Stone House Presbyterian Church in Toano, VA. Pastor Dave VanDyke will lead this memorial. James R. Paulk SR was born June 5th, 1935, in Ocilla, GA to James and Iona Paulk. James Paulk, known to his family and friends as "Jim" was one of six children. He graduated from Irwin County High School in 1955. Shortly thereafter that same year, Jim joined the United States Army where he served until 1976. After his service, Jim married Darlene, adopted a son, Richard Cleveland Paulk, and fathered a son, James Richard Paulk Jr. Jim Paulk worked for the Williamsburg James City County Sheriff's Dept. from 1979 until his retirement. His interests included family, woodworking, bowling, bird watching, baseball, music, and photography. He also umpired for Williamsburg Little League baseball for 13 years. James R. Paulk SR is survived by his sons Richard Cleveland Paulk, James Richard Paulk Jr., the mother of his children -Darlene Dempster-Reid, his daughter-in-law-Heather Rayburn Paulk, and his beloved granddaughters- Lilium "Lily" Elizabeth Paulk, who was born on Jim's 67th birthday, and Briar-Rose Sierra Paulk. He was never happier in life than when he was in the presence of his two granddaughters. In lieu of flowers, please be kind to others- keep your families close.
