Dirk M Thompson Mortuary Obituary

REFLECTIONS OF LIFE
Mr. James Roosevelt Scott went to be with the Lord Jesus Christ in his eternal home
on May 7, 2021. The son of the late Jack Eugene Scott and Alliene Rhinehardt Scott
was born June 13, 1952 in Hickory, North Carolina. Additionally, he was preceded
in death by his sister, Frances Rainey and nephew, Eugene Austin.
He was known as Jim, Mr. Scott, Scott to co-workers and friends, and affectionately
called “Paw Paw” by his close family and friends.
James was dedicated, dependable, and reliable to three employers in his life. He
served in the Army Reserves and retired in December 1993 as an E7 Staff Sergeant;
Catawba Valley Machinery where he worked for 30 year and Nu-Dimensions where
if you asked him what he did, his response was “whatever he
needed to do”. He had many titles and roles at Nu-Dimensions
such as Maintenance Supervisor, Maintenance Manager,Section
8 Inspector, Facilities Manager and Facilities Service Manager.
Although James did not attend a four-year college or university,
he taught classes at the community college and acquired many
certifications and college credit classes.
James was also active in the Ridgeview community. He served
as a Deacon at Greater Faith Missionary Baptist Church, an
active member on the Ridgeview Alumni Reunion Board, a
Judge for Catawba County Election Board and one of the
highest-ranking members of “Whatever I Need To Do In My
Community”.
James was a friend to EVERYONE he met, because he never met
a stranger. James had a very outgoing personality that included a
great smile, laugh and a gift of gab. One of his pleasures was
sitting in the driveway “yelling” and speaking to people passing by.
More than often people would stop for conversation, food, and a
good laugh. No matter the occasion, he was near the grill or
working in some capacity. He loved his family and friends and they
loved him!
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Vickie Scott; his daughter
Renric (Sidney) Lackey and son Dante Rankin both of Charlotte, North Carolina;
brothers Eugene Scott of Newton, North Carolina, Arthur (Malinda) Scott, and
Michael (Becky) Scott, all of Hickory, North Carolina, George Scott of Lumberton,
North Carolina; sisters Carol (Berry) Lawrence of Newton, North Carolina, Martha
(Richard) Hoover, Rosemary Scott and Lynda (Clark) Mervin, all of Hickory, North
Carolina; five grandchildren, Devin Flowers of Jacksonville, Florida, Linnea Poole
of Taylorsville, North Carolina, Sidney Lackey of Charlotte, North Carolina, Naraih
Rankin, and Victoria Rankin, all of Taylorsville, North Carolina; uncle James Henry
Rhinehardt of Hickory, North Carolina; aunts Betty Primus and Ola Mae Williams of
Hickory, North Carolina; sisters in-law, Angela Flowers Johnson, Norma Flowers of
Hickory, North Carolina, and Barbara “Diane” Flowers of Raleigh, North Carolina;
