Jaqueline Schimmel Obituary

Jaqueline "Jackie" Tucker Schimmel passed away at Slidell Memorial Hospital on Monday, May 29, 2017 at the age of 74. Jackie was born in Dayton, Ohio on February 2, 1943. She graduated from Greenbriar College for Women in 1961 and went on to earn a B.A. Degree in Journalism from the University of Alabama in 1965. While attending the University of Alabama, she was a proud member of the Delta Gamma Fraternity, the director of the campus radio, an intern for the Atlanta Journal Constitution, as well as being a member of several honors and professional organizations. After graduation, Jackie hosted her own radio show, Coffee Time, in Slidell, LA. While her children were growing up, she was a dedicated volunteer and team mother for her children's activities. Jackie enjoyed reading and always looked forward to playing bridge with her friends. Jackie was a consummate Alabama fan, and loved rooting for the Crimson Tide! Jackie and her husband have been parishioners for over 40 years at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Slidell, Louisiana. Jackie is survived by her devoted husband, Charles Schimmel Jr., of 51 years. They were married in Tuscaloosa, Alabama on May 14, 1966. Jackie is lovingly remembered by her son, Charles Schimmel III (Dana) of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, daughter Cathy Barnette (Larry), of Daphne, Alabama, and son, Conrad Schimmel (Teresia), of St. Croix, USVI; she will be greatly missed by her grandchildren, Kathryn Elisabeth Schimmel, Charles Bricker Schimmel IV, and Augustus Tucker Barnette. Jackie is preceded in death by her mother and father, Kathryn and Warren Tucker, and sister, Virginia Tucker Mitchell. A celebration of life will take place at Pinewood Country Club, 405 Country Club Boulevard, Slidell, LA on Monday, June 5, 2017 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Please come as you are, share your stories, and enjoy some refreshments. A family committal service will be officiated by Reverend Ed Grice at the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery at a later date. Jackie met many medical issues with a bright smile and positive demeanor. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center, 1203 S. Tyler Street, Covington, LA 70433. Condolences for the family may be offered online at www.neptunesociety.com/location/new-orleans-cremation.
