Jason Block Obituary

SAN ANGELO Jason Robert Block, 12, left this world to join his grandfather and his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2010, doing what he loved most, helping others on the farm. Rosary will be at 7 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 15, 2010, in Johnson's Funeral Home chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Monday, Aug. 16, 2010, at the Cathedral Church of the Sacred Heart with the Rev. Tom Barley and the Rev. Mario Ortiz as celebrants. Burial will follow in St. Ambrose Catholic Cemetery in Wall, Texas. Jason was born Oct. 25, 1997, to Carl and Barbara Block. Jason never met a stranger and always had a smile on his face. His passion was farming and working beside his dad. He talked farming 24/7. Jason loved working the land and planting his garden every summer. If there's a farm in heaven, Jason will be smiling and driving a John Deere tractor. Jason also loved sports, especially baseball. He was looking forward to starting the seventh grade at Wall Middle School and being with his friends. Jason was preceded in death by his grandpa, Robert H. Block. He is survived by his parents, Carl and Barbara Block; two special sisters, Lee Ann Cauley and husband Jamie and Kristy Lynn Wilde and husband Blake; his nephew, Tucker Cauley; two nieces, Hannah and Rylee Wilde, who he worshipped; his grandparents, Virgin Ann Block and Royce and Margaret Latham, all of San Angelo; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins who he dearly loved. Jason had always dreamed of lights on the Wall Little League baseball field, so in lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Wall Little League, P.O. Box 201, Wall, TX, 76957. Family and friends may sign an online register book at johnsons-funeralhome.com.

Barbara & Carl,

What dear friends you have been to us for so many years. I am so glad that we had the opportunity to know and love Jason. The news that we received on last Wednesday evening was devastating as if he was our own child, brother, cousin or nephew. Our family lived, loved and laughed with Jason and I always knew there was something extra special about him. I remembered the sombrero hats at Fuentes that he was so fascinated with when he was small. One of my fondest memories was when he came out the back door of your house with a jug of milk in his hands because he wanted a refill. He really impressed me when he participated in church and took the collection basket around. He was so proud and polished and had the best manners. I remember when he was born and what proud parents you and Carl were. I know that Liz treasures picking him up from daycare taking him to the pool and teaching him how to swim. Paul also delighted in playing tennis with him and sitting by him when we went out to eat. I know that Sarah enjoyed every minute spent with Jason. I also know that Frank and Dolores hold special memories of Jason in their hearts. It was very upsetting to them to hear such shocking news. My mother sends her condolences and remembers what a little gentleman he was when she met him at the resturant you were eating at. I will never forget seeing him drive by the house in one of Carls big tractors with his arm stretch out waving and an ear to ear grin on his face. Jason was a reflection of you and Carl,Kristy,Lee Ann,Mr.and Mrs.Block,Margaret and Royce and many other extended family members. He was so lucky to be born into such a loving family.Know that you are in our prays and we loved Jason an will never forget the joy he brought to each of us.

Sincerely,

Stuart,Donna,Elizabeth,Sarah and Paul Gully

Carl,
Though Dwain and I never got to meet your son, we kind of watched you both from a distance...in the tractor. Dwain said that you probably spent more quality time with your son than most fathers ever get to experience with theirs... having him not only by your side, but also seeing him love farming like you did, as long as you did. Please know as time goes on that though he is not there for you to see him next to you, he will always be there with you, now and forever after. As you hold and love and comfort your wife, daughters, grandchildren, and mother, know that your purpose with Jason was fulfilled, and your purpose with your ramaining family goes on as Jesus continues to love you all, and gives you many more blessings to come. Sincerely, our ongoing prayers will be with your family. We are so very sorry.

Barbara and Carl, we were deeply saddened to hear of your loss. The first memory I have of Jason is when you Barbara and your mother were at the mall and you were pregnant. The next memory is at Trinity E.C.C. when we would be scurring to pick up the kids to take them to their activities and the kids would be calling us to hurry more. May the Lord wrap His arms around you and Carl during your time of grief.

We've been longtime dear friends with Bill & Nellie (Block) Farr and never had the privilege of meeting Jason or his immediate family. Our language simply does not contain adequate words for describing such a loss ... but it appears that it's equally hard to put into words the impact that Jason had on the world around him. In this age, very few folks move through their day-to-day lives and innocently generate this much love and genuine admiration from the people they meet. I truly wish I had known Jason! God bless you all and stay close to Him.

August 15, 2010

Chris and I will always remember Jason for all the ways he enriched our lives. His joy for life and contagious smile will never be forgotten. Every time he came into the gin office, he had a story to tell and a hug to give. His enthusiasm for learning about the gin machinery and all facets of agriculture was truly amazing. He always came inside the office looking for Chris. Together, they would go out in the gin or for a ride in the module truck. He and Chris really enjoyed each other's company and had lots of fun joking around. Jason was always willing to lend a hand and would always be right by Chris' side if there was something he could do to help. If I didn't watch it, he would be emptying my trash or sweeping the office floor. We have so many fond memories of the special times we spent with Jason that we will keep in our hearts forever. Carl and Barbara, I hope you know that we loved Jason as if he was one of our own boys. May God grant us all the strength and peace to get through this horrific time together. We love you Jason and we will NEVER forget you. Chris & Kim

To the Block family-

I did not know your son Jason, but it is so evident that he was indeed a special young man. We can offer no words to take away your pain at this loss, but I hope your memories of the short time you spent with Jason will be cherished. I know that he was loved and that he loved you in return and always remember that when he left this earth, he left part of himself with you--the lifetime of love that he gave to you can never be taken away--it is yours to cherish for always. May God hold you close in the days ahead.

My Deepest Condolences to the family and all who knew Jason. Jason sure knew how to stretch a story especially with that sweet heavy accent. He once told me he had the best tasting tomatoes I'd ever buy...he was right!

August 15, 2010

May you feel the warmth of God's arms around each of you during this traumatic time in your lives. For those of us who are left behind, even though we have been raised and taught not to question "why," we still do. The pain is too deep, and therefore, we cry in silence. Jason is farming in God's golden fields, and I hope he has the opportunity to meet my brother, who has been farming God's fields since February of this year. I will pray for strength, understanding, courage, acceptance, and peace for your family. On a personal note, my Grandson Chase Smith played with Jason this past summer in baseball. Although we were not blessed with the opportunity to know Jason personally, I want you to know, we did come to know him through Dad. His Uncle Bob loved and admired that little man. Barbara and Carl,
Oh, how I have been grieving for each of you since I opened my newspaper yesterday morning. You will definitely be in my daily prayers for many days to come. It is so very hard to lose a child; God needed him to keep the fields clean with his John Deere tractor and to be a special angel for all the younger children in heaven with him. May God's loving arms encompass each of you in the days to come to give you comfort.
My love,

If only there were more people in the world like Jason. He lived his life as if every moment was a "take your breath away moment." He had a smile that not only lit up his face, but the whole world around him. We will never forget him. As parents we all want our kids to be the best that they can be and Carl and Barbara you should be proud knowing that Jason was definitely the best. You raised a remarkable young man. Just knowing him blessed our lives tremendously and we grieve with you and your family.

Words escape me... but know we are praying for you and love you, and grieve with you. During our move, I had just come across a picture of Jason holding Laci when she was born. He was such a gentleman, always smiling... It is a blessing to have been given the opportunity to experience his love.

Heaven

Now that I'm in Heaven, Lord
and life is just a dream
I don't want to hang around
eating strawberries and cream.

I'm really quite an active child
and I don't need to rest
I'll just play and do the things
You know I like best.

I'll play ball in Heaven, Lord
With my halo on my head
I'll run around the playing field
or use my wings instead.

I'll pick the players on my team
and when we win the game
I'll make the Heaven's Hall of Fame
Everyone will know my name.

I'll fish the streams and rivers, Lord
and lure big fish my way.
You know I'll put them back again
to catch another day.

I'll sail high seas and see the lands
the mountains and the plains
I'll fly the skies with open eyes
above the clouds and rain.

I'll even practice all the things
an angel has to do
but MOMMY know my favorite thing
is watching over you.

Our prayers go out to all of you. Such a beautiful child. Wonderful memories you have of him. God bless you all.

You don't know me but my grandson Hunter Owens played baseball on Wards team. I had the joy of talking to Jason one night at the Allstar tournament in Carlsbad. They played each other and my daughter Susan and I sat behind right field. Jason stuck up a conversation with us and he found out we belonged to Hunter. It was my pleasure to meet and talk to him. He was cute and very funny, a joy to watch and listen to. I am so sorry for your lose and I know it is a loss to everyone. My husband and I have cried tears and prayed for you and you're family. Jason lived, laughed, and loved deeply and gave a piece of his heart to all he met. While his time on this earth was too short, he accomplished more in his 12 years than most people do in a lifetime. In a world full of strife, he was a shining light to everyone. Heaven must be rejoicing with his presence and I don't doubt for a second that he is farming for God. Thank you Carl, Barbara, and family for raising such a fine young man and for sharing him with us. May God's peace surround you all during this most difficult time. Sandy Hobson
