Rigby Harting and Hagan Funeral Home - Media Obituary

Jay Howard Baker, 61 years, passed suddenly on April 8, 2021 at his home in Arizona.  He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Dawn Simcox Baker.  Jay was the devoted father of Andrew, Matthew and Emily.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Helen & Thomas Baker, his sister, Beverly, and brother, Tom.

Jay was a lifelong resident of the Media area.  During middle school his father’s job took the family to Liberia, Africa where they lived for two years.  The experience had a profound impact on Jay’s life and lead to his lifelong support of the Liberian Community abroad and in Philadelphia.  Jay ultimately graduated from Penncrest High School and Widener University.  He enjoyed a long career as a compliance officer with Penn Mutual Life Insur. Co.  He became a Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist and most recently began working with Wells Fargo in their Financial Crimes division.

Jay was an Elder at Middletown Presbyterian Church and a longtime Coach and Board Member of the Media Little League.  He was a loving husband and father who was happiest spending time with his family.

Friends are invited to his funeral on Saturday, April 24th at the Middletown Presbyterian Church, 273 S. Old Middletown Rd., Media, PA 19063.  There will be a visitation in the church from 9:30 – 11:00 am.  The service will begin at 11 am.  Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to Middletown Presbyterian Church, Board of Deacons.

One of the good ones. Gone too soon. May his memory be eternal.

So sorry to hear of Jay's passing. His sister, Beverly, was my very best friend. I remember her telling me of her mom being pregnant with him, as well as his birth on May 12th, a birthday Jay and I share. He was always smiling and respectful. His Christian faith and work at Middletown Presbyterian were a source of pride to his family. Tommy/Karen, so shocked by this untimely death. My sympathy to the family.

Hi I'm Carl Baker proud to be 1st cousin of Jay Baker.I'm a longtime resident of Sarasota fl, grew up in Media pa. Where do I start with Jay, I am about 5 years older, always enjoyed the Baker family reunions used to see Jay there, we would swim , play touch football and eat a lot of great food. Jay grew up to be a great person, husband to Dawn and loving father to Andrew, Matthew and Emily. Jay was also very successful in banking, graduated from Widener University. My wife linda and I are so...

Jay was always so nice, and had a smile for everyone he saw!
My condolences, and prayers go out to Dawn, and their children. Rest peacefully Jay.

May God bless you now and forever

We worked together in a small training group at Wells Fargo bank compliance. Jay was the life of the party. He had stories that made the sessions fun and enjoyable. So it was surprising and saddening to learn of Jay's passing. Janak Shah joins me in offering condolences to his family of whom he often spoke with love and humility. Rest in peace Jay..

Memories of Jay put a smile upon our faces, as we reflect on how Jay and his family interacted with ours over the years. Jay was a warm and caring Sunday School teacher, and a strong church leader who exemplified the love of Christ in all his relationships. From coaching to insurance planning, to being a devoted husband, loving father, and loyal friend, Jay will be missed dearly. Sheila, Matt, Katie and I send our sincere sympathies to the Bakers as we celebrate Jay’s life, a life well-lived...
