Groton- Jeffrey “ Jeff” Brown of Groton, CT unexpectedly and peacefully passed away on June, 27 2025 in Uncasville, CT.
Jeff was born in Hartford, CT on April, 6 1966 to James Hellem and Alice Cunningham ( Brown)
Jeff attended Farmington Public Schools. In his senior year he attended Norwich Free Academy where he was an exceptional academic student graduating in 1985.
Jeff loved football and basketball. Basketball was his real love. His friends often commented how awesome of a player he was and how light on his feet he was while on the basketball court.
Jeff had a great love for music at a young age that would later inspire him to become a DJ and affectionately be known as DJ Jazzy Jeff.
Jeff loved the outdoors. Whether it was taking long car rides in one of his many cars or going fishing with his family and friends.
Jeff was employed and managed Jiffy Lube in the Waterford and Norwich area for twenty plus years.He trained numerous individuals during his years there . He also gained a wonderful rapport with countless customers.
His most recent employment was with Change Inc where he was a caregiver who went above and beyond his job duties with the participants that he was assigned to. They were his friends . He loved them as much as they loved him.
On June 13th he married Michele (Taste) Brown .
Jeff is survived by his wife, Michele Brown ,his children, Jocelyn Mazyck Brown, Elijah Jhamahl Brown ( Sara) Grandchildren, Savion Brown , Khyrie Brown, all of Groton, CT, His mother, Alice Cunningham of Norwich, CT, Paternal Grandmother, Edna Ruth Hellum, Sisters, Debbie Ann Brown of Bloomfield, CT, Catrina Thompson (Trevor) of Norwich, CT, Lashawn Cunningham of Norwich, CT. Cynthia Sterling ( Oscar) of Tuscaloosa, AL, Shannon Britton( Michael) of Wetumpka, AL and Danielle Williams of Manchester, CT.
He also leaves to cherish his memories a host of neices, nephews, aunts , uncles , cousins and friends.
Jeff was a devoted husband, father, “Papa, son, brother, cousin and friend. His grandchildren were the light of his life. He was devoted to being the best “Papa” to them as he could.
Jeff was predeceased by his father, James Hellum, paternal grandfather John Upchurch, maternal grandparents, Henry and Reverend Bessie L Brown.. aunts, Juanita Brown , Gwendylon Brown.
A celebration of Jeff’s life will be held on Monday, July 7th at 11am ar Walk of Faith Word Center, 20 Grove Ave, Groton. There are no calling hours and burial is private.

Jeff, you were more than a cousin to me. You were my big brother, my confidant, and you became one of my closest friends.
