Jeneral Swindell Obituary

Jeneral Benjamin "J.B." Swindell, Jr., 83, of Georgetown, Texas, passed away on May 15 after a brief illness. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Kathy Olson; daughter Michelle Berryman and her husband, Mason; and his beloved dogs, Kuba and Dolly Parton. He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, first wife Doylene, and brother-in-law Fred Olson.

Born in Ludowici, Georgia, J.B. graduated from Ludowici High School in 1959, where he played point guard on a state-finalist basketball team. He attended Brewton Parker College and worked for the Georgia Prison System and General Motors before enlisting in the Georgia National Guard in 1963. He graduated from the Georgia Military Institute in 1966 and served 26 years in the military, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. His service included Vietnam and two tours in Europe.

In 1974, he earned a Business Administration degree from the University of Mississippi, followed by a Master's in Public Administration from the University of Northern Colorado. A proud Ole Miss alum, he remained a devoted fan throughout his life.

After retiring from the Army, J.B. worked as a defense contractor in the U.S. and abroad. He was also a strong supporter of Kathy's career, earning the nickname "the grill master" among her FBI colleagues.

J.B. was known for his warmth, humor, and hospitality. He loved dogs, grilling, fishing, and a good prank. His home was always open to friends, family, and neighbors.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 31, 2025, at 4:00 PM at Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home in Georgetown, TX, with a reception to follow.
